ESPN is reporting that the Red Sox refused to play their final Spring Training game today and balked at their Japan trip for "Opening Day."
They are standing up for their coaches.
According to the players, all coaches, trainers, staff members who traveled to Japan were to be paid for the trip.
Pay was to be equal to the players.
Francona even told the coaches they would get the travel stipend.
Sounds like MLB had a different understanding(?) and is balking at paying coaches, trainers, staff.
What a mess. But it sure is nice to hear the players stand behind the coaches, the trainers, equipment folks and staff on this one as those people have no leverage and are subject to these types of MLB actions.
Amazing...and certainly not for the good of the game.
But, alas, Opening Day in Japan is???

'You don't have to be a great player to play in the major leagues, you've got to be a good one every day.'
