I have not looked at a lot of mock drafts but of those that I remember seeing, McKay, Green, and Gore have been ahead of Lewis.
We'll see soon.
I'm more interested in seeing how some local kids do. I think one college kid who played at my kid's HS should go pretty high - perhaps as high as 5th round. Another I'm hoping goes by round 10. And a kid who was on our travel team for a couple of years and played against my son in HS may go as high as 6th or 7th, I hear.
That looks about right. I'm hoping the Brewers take Jordan Adell. Or Shane Baz (a little concerned about signability w/ Baz though as he might be set on going to TCU)
I've read that there is some potential maneuvering at the top to potentially save some dollars for later picks. On Baz going to Brewers - that would be #9 overall at a slot value of $4.5 million - correct? Signability issues at $4.5 million? Must come from a wealthy family to ever consider passing on several million dollars.
The draft will be one thing - the signings will be the sequel and give some of the backstory to some of the picks.
I've seen Bubba Thompson as a possibility at #4 and seen Baz as high as #7. One steal or surprise pick I think could be Jordon Adell going at #6. The draft will always have last minute scenarios come into play where some guys will go a lot higher or lower than expected even two hours before the draft. I don't think many people thought Moniak would go one one until a couple hours before the draft.
Big excitement tonight for many, many players and families. Hope everyone has a great time!!!!!!
AND RECORD EVERYTHING!!!
The coverage this year is incredible. It's nearly on par with NFL and NBA drafts
Royce first overall to the twins

Jordan Adell
Shane Baz
Pavin Smith
Alex Faedo
Wow, completely forgot the draft was tonight.
The kid has played many, many games against Jordan Adell when he was with Midland. It was always fun to beat that team because while Jordan seemed like a good kid his dad had a really big mouth.
So earlier this year I sat and talked to a scout that knew my kid well. He told me that all he had to do was show he could hit and they were going to draft him. And do so high enough to give him a pretty tough decision to make between collage and going pro. He no more than said that and the kid hit about a 450' HR. Unfortunately he then proceeded to have the worst statistical year of his HS career. But that's OK. I don't believe it's in the kids best interest to go, at 18, and play baseball with a bunch or grown men from all over the world.
That said... So he moved to a 34" bat this year. I found (I forget the model number) a LS 34" end loaded bat on justbats for $99 and jumped on it. When it got here we weighed it and it came in at 33 ozs. The kid wanted to send it back but I made him use it. After all it's only HS baseball I told him. So after his sub par season we've been in the cage with his Baum and he's been tearing it up, so he just may have been right. He's said he just couldn't control the barrel through the zone with that bat. So the draft is tonight, then he has two or three weekends of summer ball before he goes to Nebraska. If he tears it up with his Baum that will be a pretty miserable few weeks for me, LOL.

Would you have said that if he had a great HS season and was projected in the top 5 rounds? Just curious. Even being drafted in the 38th round is an honor, let alone higher rounds. Regardless of the college dilemma, your name will forever be part of that draft list.
Congratulations to Florida's Alex Faedo. Way to go Sully!
Congratulations to Clarke Schmidt, South Carolina, brother of Clate from Clemson, drafted last year by the Tigers. What an awesome day for an awesome family.

Scouts don't draft players. They have no clue where your son or anyone elses will fall in the draft.
the Brewers pick of Keston Hiura is intriguing. One of the top college bats but he'll need Tommy John. He has a chance to be a plus plus hitter but not sure on position
Brent Rooker went #35 overall

I'd like to think so. My son is a gifted kid in a lot of ways. If he had grown 3-4 more inches he'd be playing DI basketball. For a while people were saying he would be another Dirk Nowitzki. He has put up really impressive numbers on the mound this year. Commands four pitches and hit 93 in later innings but is not seen as a pitcher for whatever reason. Even if he were drafted as a pitcher he insisted he wouldn't go because as he said "I want to play baseball, not pitch". At the plate MLB level scouts and instructors have used words like amazing and impressive to describe his bat speed. What really hurts is he runs a 7.1 sixty.
All that said from a maturity standpoint I don't think he's ready to be out there with a bunch of grown men. College isn't a terrible second choice really. A lot to like about it. He's a pretty handsome young man like there's that... Hopefully the MLB will still be there in three years. LOL

Really, what about when they are the Assistant to the Director of scouting and #2 scout in the organization. If you are watching the draft your looking at him.
They still dont know until the draft. Anyone telling anyone months before the draft, is blowin smoke, I dont care who it is.
Sometimes scouts tell parents what they want to hear, rather than what they should.

He must be the highest Asian American ever picked. Even pitchers who got TJ recently were picked. The most amazing thing of all is that there were multiple pitchers who hit 100mph on the gun and NONE of them went #1.
I thought rooker would go with a sandwich pick. There is the age and some swing and miss but the power is hard to ignore. Position is an issue but at the back end of round one you can take that risk.
Not sure I like hiura in the modern game at six. He can hit but not that much power there and if he is a DH you might have a DH hitting 300 with 15 HR (billy butler). That is not really that productive but then again his bust potential is low and if he can play second his bat will play well (although now even at second there are a lot of 20 plus hr hitters.

For clarity's sake.....
The #2 guy runs workouts over the winter and a fall league, so the kid has spent about 4-5 months playing in front of him the last 4 years. But he's not the one that I talked to. He had a guy who ran the bullpen at his winter workouts. He's now the organization's what, bird dog scout for this area. He's the one who approached me, get that, approached me during a game and told me how they felt about the kid.
So you're implying that this man sought me out at a game to tell me something I wanted to here. That in actuality is the opposite of what I think is best for the kid.
I guess I shouldn't have posted anything. I just thought it was a little ironic that given a little different circumstances I wouldn't have forgotten the date.
SomeBaseballDad,
I don't think it is right to post Jordan Adell's dad is a loud mouth. People are likely to believe that. We have watched Jordan very closely the last few years. Somewhere around 20 different events, both tournaments and showcase events. We have seen him do extremely well and also be humbled. Seen a team bat him ninth in the lineup. Seen him play in the PG All American game.
Not once in all that time have we seen or heard a loud mouth dad. Jordan is a great athlete, very intelligent, and one outstanding young man in every way. He comes from a great family!
Believe me, we see some loud mouth dads from time to time. Doesn't fit in this case.

I read somewhere that the Braves were thinking of taking Hiura at 5, so the Brewers got great value.

I think what people are trying to tell you is that just because the guy talked to you doesn't mean he knew exactly when or if they would draft your kid. If your kid was really on their list, they would have come to your house and submitted your kid to physical, psychological, and medical testing. They may like your kid, and he may get drafted, but it is definitely not guaranteed if you have done any of those things.
The top three picks all played in the PG All American game last year, along with many other PG AA's that were selected last night. The PGAAC started in 2003 as the Aflac Classic, so that is 14 years. In that 14 years of featuring the top HS juniors, nine times the first overall pick played in the game.
Not sure I can list them all without looking it up, but off the top of my head... Bryce Harper, Carlos Correa, Mickey Moniak, Royce Lewis, Gerrit Cole, Tim Beckham, Justin Upton, Matt Bush, can't remember the ninth player.
The same game has had nearly 200 first round picks in that time. About one out of ever three players has become a first round pick. Needless to say, it has been a lot of fun watching all those future MLB stars as young HS players. Almost like watching the Major League All Star game except for the same players are much younger.
BTW, the ninth, first over all, pick was Brady Aikens.

I thought that was basically the point of my post. The kid was told early in the season what he needed to do. Hit well. He did not do that so no draft for him.
Yes I understand very well the process of the draft. The whole scholarship process isn't a piece of cake and we managed that pretty well.

Well I apologize for trying to bring clarity to you, because earlier it sounded like you didn't quite grasp how things work. I was apparently mistaken.
Those of us who have raised high-academic D3 position players have reason to keep our MLB or at least MiLB dreams alive:
So far:
Austin Filiere, MIT, taken by the Cubs in the 8th round
Tanner Nishioka, Pomona-Pitzer, taken by Boston in the 9th round
(there may be others that I didn't notice)
JCG;
Congratulations to Jake Scheiner, one of our former players was drafted 4th Round by the Phillies.
Jake played our Goodwill Series teams, Maria Carrillo, Santa Rosa JC and U of Houston.
Bob
Longenhagen doesn't really love lewis. Said great feel to hit and speed but for him not a shortstop but potentially a plus Centerfielder. Wasn't so high on his power seeing him as more of a 15 hr guy or so.
Great player but I think others of the top5 might have a little more upside.
Btw as a baseball fan I like that the new slotting system seems to cut down the number of saving for overslot deals. I like when teams get the best player available and not try to work out things later.

Congratulations to Alex Eubanks from Clemson drafted by the Rangers in the 14th.
And.....a big shout out to Jake Walsh from Florida Southern College drafted by the redbirds in the 16th.
LH went undrafted. I know the thread was closed but I think that still is worth news. Without judging what he has done which we probably shouldnt do I would not be surprised if his last outing was the last time he ever stepped on a baseball field.
Can't see him going back to college and pro ball doesn't seem to want to take on the possible bad press and distraction that would come with him.
I just saw the video of Matt Deggs' pressor (HC for Sam Houston) after they lost to FSU. It can be found on twitter, BearKatSports@BearkatVid. He talks about his faith and second chances. Pretty impressive.
I am not sure that I am qualified to judge how someone should or should not be punished and frankly very sad about all that has inspired because it's only a game and a shame for most it's all about winning and money.
Oh. Lol. Didnt even think about that.
Georgia edges out Texas, and Pennsylvania with a good showing for a northern state: http://usatodayhss.com/2017/20...nd-round-high-school
All 19 of the California kids drafted in the first three rounds were from Southern California, where it was an exceptionally strong year. The first NorCal draftee was #109, Drew Stotman -- I would guess that it's the first time in a long time, maybe ever, that NorCal didn't produce one of the first 100 picks.
