Rock, from memory, the Cards offered Grudz 2 years at $2 million a year, and he thought he was worth more at the age of 36. He most certainly contributed to the Cardinals this last season, but he was down with a couple of injuries the second half that weren't linked to a particular incident --- more like "wearing down" stuff. Ultimately, the club didn't want a 37 year old, moderatley expensive MI through '07.

I'm more distressed about losing Sanders' leadership and flashes of brilliance. But he wanted starter money for a platooner/bench position.

I don't believe either have been picked up as yet, though I've read the Royals are talking to Grudz. (ouch!)
RR

I was merely relishing the thought of the three boys in the same infield....completely about the love/hate relationship between the Yankees(winners) and the Red Sox....

Nomar is most likely headed to the Dodgers but I am still hoping.....Add Damon to the mix and the Sox fans would be on the ledge again...LOL

Like your suit...very festive Smile
Ramrod it's a well know fact that Normar was not a happy camper in Boston.....the Red Sox obliged him with a trade.....and all breathed a sigh of relief....further....in order for him to be a MVP he has to stay healthy, injury free......good luck to him.....don't wish him ill.....but he has had a major problem with injuries in the past few years....

GO RED SOX!!!!

PS: Can you name one team that hasn't "thrown over" a player?
arizona

Nomar did get lucky...he was unhappy and had someone who wanted his services. AND, he is looking for a one year deal due to his injury situation. Renteria didn't fare any better, did he?

How about Manny?...He has been unhappy and asked to be traded how many years in a row now? and we can't seem to get it done?

Damon is asking for $84Million for 7 years???!!!
Is the Sox front office not accomadating such an offer "throwing him over" or just a pass?

Unloading players is part of the pro game. Very sad to see Meuller go but maybe the Dodgers front office will treat him well.

Their are some players that are identified with a team and Nomar was the "Big" name of the Red Sox.

Every kid at the LLWS wanted to be akin to Nomar he was so respected by them.

Kids know who the good players are, since I can remember as a kid those conversations I had with my buddies...believe me we knew who was good and who wasn't. Kids are no different today when it comes to that sort of thing.

Now the question in my mind is, why is Nomar having so many injuries and health problems?...could he have been one of the guys using like Giambi? If that be the case I would anticipate him having a much better year in 2006 with the "juice" gone. Just conjecture, not an accusation.

Nomar has to come back strong in 2006 or we will see a team saying...nomas (no more), Nomar.
Chill.....Manny does not like Boston.....word is he doesn't even own a home or rent one there...he lives out of the Ritz Carlton.....beleive me.....if the Red Sox could find a way....beneficial to all.....Manny would be gone.......

Think when we are talking $84 million...there isn't any "throwing over"....rather a decision that you just out priced yourself.....
MA

The Dodgers will have a little Sox reunion going on over there this summer...
Nomar, Meuller, Lowe and Little.

You are lucky to haver Billy Meuller and hope he hits for you after a down series in the playoffs this October(That can happen!).

I think Mia's parents are from out your way too, which I guess had some leverage in his decision.
Chill, any reaction your way on the Glaus trade. Very interesting one, IMO. Getting a potentially huge bat in exchange for a really, really fine player in Hudson. If Hudson played for someone in a major market, this would be getting huge visibility I would think because he is so talented. This is really an interesting trade. The Jays got a huge upside if Glaus stays healthy and plays 150 or so games. Gave up a wonderful player in Hudson, though.

My reaction is a terribly mixed reaction!
WOW...what do you have to give to get?

This is one of those times where you understand it's not about the money and sometimes the business of baseball is heartbreaking because of friendships....My ODog has been a big part of this "building" and wanted to be part of a special season. Will it happen? Time will tell. I know one coach who will miss everything about him terribly. Frown

I agree he is a special player but the potential to produce some much needed offense has been addressed with a bat who "could" make the difference. You're right, he needs to stay healthy and the best news is that because of the surgery, last year he could not lift weights and still had 37?( I think?) HR's.
Hoping he can be consistant and make Vernon a better hitter while he's at it!

ODog playing second at Bank One also means that Counsell's days are numbered with the DBacks.

This game will break your heart.
