Today, Northeastern Illinois University played against the Boston Red Sox. I see this happens occasionally early in Spring Training.

They do this every year and hit with wood.
sox played BC last night. good to see a baseball game again.
Northeastern is not from Illinois. They are from Boston. The Red Sox started playing BC a good 10-15 plus years ago. When Mrs Yawkee passed away John Harrington ran the club for the estate. He was a BC grad and big booster so he arranged to have the BC team play the Sox on the eve of their spring training games starting and while BC was in florida for their first games. About 5 years ago the PC police came by and said it isn't fair that you just play BC so now they also play Northeastern which is a small D1 school in Boston. They are one of the 4 teams that participate in the hockey Bean Pot. They dropped their football program this past year. I believe they rotate Northeastern and BC each year between the day game and the night game. Both teams are the D1 schools from Boston who are in florida for their 1st couple of weeks while their fields defrost up here..lol
The Cardinals play St Louis University every now and then. Probably a neat treat for the local players to play the Cardinals. I would gather BC has a lot of Boston guys and they enjoy it also.

There is a Northeastern Illinois Univ which is in Chicago as well as Northeastern University which is on the East coast.
Yeah, I stand corrected. I just assumed IL...sorry.
But, it's got to be a great thrill to be able to play against a Major League Team, even if you do get creamed.
