Mlb will officially announce tonight a new collective bargaining agreement which will extend thru 2011.
This is great news as it means no work stoppage or strike nor the threat of one. Harmony between the owners and players is great.
BUT - it appears there will be no change on the drug policy. Yeah, steroids have most likely been eliminated with the current testing. Only ones getting caught with the roids are usually the cash starved/uninformed minor leaguers.
The problem is baseball's new "dirty little secret" (human growth hormone) will not be tested for. Seems odd after decades of fighting over splitting the pie that a quick agreement could be reached so easily - especially considering that pie is bigger than ever.
Had Congress jumped on Hgh and olympic quality testing (including Hgh) was part of this bargaining process I doubt you'd see a deal being announced tonight. Sad that what is widely rumored to now be the drug of choice in baseball (and arguably more performance-enhancing than roids) will be allowed.
Baseball is still the greatest game there is but it'd be nice to watch a game and not have to wonder if there's a "level playing field".
