Gamer, It would have been a dream weekend. I coached alot of the kids on the MHS roster, so I would have enjoyed watching that series.

It's a shame Coronado ran out of gas last night. They were the best team in the district and had all the key elements to play well in Austin. But, it was not meant to be....

I will say this.... Gates is the real deal!

Here's the thing about Martin...
They play in arguably one of the weakest districts in the entire state. Aside from their games with Mansfield the only time they are playing good teams is tournaments. I try not to take too much stock in tournaments because typically most teams are trying to figure out who is going to step up and be the #2 and who is going to come out of the bull pen and things like that. Then in the playoffs they beat Richland and San Angelo Central who I beleive were both sub .500 teams... So, using Martin as the measuring stick probably isnt the best idea...
Just my opinion....
You must of either not read my previous post or misunderstood.
Hardnosegamer was telling horns1 to respect Monterey more because they had beaten Martin previously. My next post argued that beating Martin wasnt a good measuring stick for anything. I then only mentioned Martin actually beat Monterey to correct Hardnosegamer.
So if you would of read/understood my first post you would realize that I agreed preseason tournaments don't mean much. But.. its ok... i guess i just needed to explain it twice.

Well, if Max Preps is wrong... what is their record?
First off....
Why are you misquoting me? I never called Martin weak. If you go back and read the earlier post you will realize I said their district is weak.

Secondly, I do agree with you; Monterey is playing good baseball, As are the other 7 teams left. They should all be proud of themselves for advancing to the Regional Finals. It's not an easy task.
You never said it, but it was implied. "They play in arguably one of the weakest districts in the entire state." Also, "Then in the playoffs they beat Richland and San Angelo Central who I beleive were both sub .500 teams... So, using Martin as the measuring stick probably isnt the best idea..."

It may never have been said, but it could definately be mistaken that you were saying Martin was "weak". Or at least that they played weak teams, meaning their oppenents make them as good as they are thought to be.

It is what it is....

The good thing about playoff HS baseball, opinions about West Texas v. DFW, who plays in a weaker district, or one vs. three game series, who's better on paper - doesn't matter.

The players will settle it on the field Friday night. And.... no matter what we think, one team will advance and the other team will not.

Its all good. GED10DaD

Diablo.
I'm not sure what you mean by your question?
I will venture a guess: Were you referring to the high ranking Heritage received from MaxPreps?
If so, show me when I ever even talked about the ranking system..
The only reason I mentioned MaxPreps was to tell someone where I saw Central's record which apparently was misreported.
When updated MaxPreps is an incredible website for stats... Check it out...

RoyHobbs... I'm sorry that your record was misreported on MaxPreps.I went to your team website first.. but that proved to be useless for what I needed.

Hardnosedgamer:
Martin is not a weak team... no doubt... so i'm sorry that you inferred incorrectly.
Fact is they do play in a very weak district. I would know... I played in it for a couple years.
The reason I don't think using Martin as a measuring stick is a good idea is because... as Ive said...Martin plays its best competition in the pre season. I've already made my argument for why preseason tournaments don't mean much. That gets us to district... The last 5-6 years Martin typically losses very few if any district games so they typically are rewarded with a high state ranking.. therefore alot of people assume if you beat Martin or keep it close.. then you're a good team... I'm not saying they are weak... I'm just saying they aren't as good as alot of people like to think...
Hornsr1,

Going to state the obvious here.....

I'd have to say that many of the 3rd game Coronado strikeouts by all those "weak bats" were the result of a great pitching rotation strategized by Coach Clark. Win game one with your hot hand. Go into the second game where Coronado has to win, throwing their #2 throwing while not throwing your next best. If your bats win game2, great...but if not, you're in great shape for game 3. Coronado lights up the score board every inning. How many plate appearances did Coronado have in game 2....something like 45? Think a little timing got established? Was it a little too easy for them? They then have to come back for game 3 in 30 minutes facing a D1 bound 3 pitch guy with great location. Different pace, different look. Those 3 strikeouts in the first set the tone for the rest of the game. Timing and expectations were way off as they reached across the plate for a ball tailing away. They might have fared better against Blum in game 2 (but maybe not).

With the confidence Huber currently has, he is matching SLC's Ross Stripling playoff performance of several years ago. Question is, should PW make it to RR, does he pitch the semi or wait for a possible championship game. If you remember, Hughes pitched Stripling to get into the game with PW.
