The administration at Moorpark College has proposed to eliminate the baseball program after this season. This is not a rumor. If baseball is eliminated at Moorpark College there will be no JC baseball program in the east end of Ventura County. She had to choose between baseball and mens s****r. I know we are in the USA. If you would like to voice your opinion you can e-mail her at LBennett@vcccd.edu. It would be good if you cc our AD as well, HDavis@vcccd.edu.

This is very sad. To what extent is this a done deal? I see that the school has serious budget cuts to deal with (like all schools today, seemingly). What argument could one propose to help sway their decision? I am always willing to voice support of baseball programs but I can't find any info on the situation that would provide a platform. I know what a hotbed the area is for baseball, so the demand is obviously there, but I don't know how that may have any bearing on their budget woes.

State JC's seem to be an odd lot. When budget issues started really getting bad a few years back, I would have thought they would do what they can to increase enrollment along with bumping tuition, but instead I see classes constantly cut (at our local JC anyway) despite student demand. Does this mean they are constantly operating in the red?

I was told about it by a frind of mine whos son plays there. Here is the only info I have been able to find on it.

I think within 10 years there will not be any JC or High school sports besides football or very few. With the way the economy is goining the schools wont be able to afford them. When that happens the club, travel or scout teams will take over and just rent the fields or gyms from the schools.

Thats to bad because whatever money is brought in by the schools or school districts by this wont be spent right and they will still be in the red. I reall hope im wrong on all this.

Several freshmen have already transferred. Moorpark is the only JC in the district which is planning on cutting baseball so that is going to cause problems for the other teams in the conference and will up travel costs for Ventura and Oxnard who will have to play more games at Hancock and Cuesta.

The AD seems to be a top notch guy who has the athletes' best interests in mind so I would guess we are seeing an administrator at some level who simply doesn't like sports.
