Hi everyone. I am a 2013 Junior and RHP. I am 6'5 almost 6'6 and 197 pounds I throw high 80's hitting low 90's and have topped at 93 and that was before getting into the weight room for the first time ever. Whenever people see my recruit profile they all ask "why aren't you being contacted by coaches more?" most of the contact I have is through recruiting coordinators if that. I have been putting most of my effort on d1 with some DII and DIII mixed in, but is there a reason I am not getting contacted more often? I honestly have a very mild understanding of the recruiting process so if anyone else can help me out here it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

bigheat27-42,

Thanks for your post. I have some initial questions & comments when reading your thread. I'm fairly certain that all the experience on this site, can help you get pointed in the right direction.

1) Where have you been pitching high 80's low 90's? Has it been in front of college coaches?

2) What have YOU done to raise awareness of your skills & communicate with your target colleges? Travel baseball, showcases, tournaments, American Legion? Have you been proactive with your communication to college coaches? Waiting for college coaches to "discover you" is a poor plan. You need to be playing in front of college coaches that want your skills, and have the power to make you offers in the coming months.

3) What about your grades?
BigHeat,

You are VERY fortunate to have a 90+ arm. Never forget that or take that for granted. There's loads of people like me who would love to have that raw talent. However, that doesn't mean you can kick back and wait for teams to find you, you've still got to be proactive if you want to get to the schools you're hoping for. This covers a pretty vague set of things, but I think its most important for you to e-mail or send a recruiting package (skills video, cover letter, resume, etc), get a legit scout or evaluation from a reputable scout or source (Perfect Game Showcases are decent for this [shoutout to you PGStaff Wink]) to confirm your velocity and skills, take care of your grades, and never say no or shut the door on anyone immediately.

Other than that, just sit back and enjoy the process man, its a once in a lifetime opportunity and something I still look back on all the time a year later. Best of luck to you Big Heat and never stop working hard.

I am on a lot higher profile team this year but we are only going to tournaments in Illinois along with one in Indiana. Last year I hit 92 on the gun in front of some juco scouts and I believe possibly a big ten school. I was playing up on a 17 year old team and my name was not on the roster until a few days before the tournament. Needless to say, I had no time to contact any coaches in the area. This year I have been sending e mails along with video and a link to my recruit profile which acts as a resume but with pictures and video also. The only thing is I have only been in contact with the recruiting coordinators. What else can I do before it's too late? thank you again
bigheat27-42,

I'm not sure of the scope or reach of the IL or IN tournaments (regional or national tournaments) you'll be attending this summer. You may want to check with your travel coach to see what colleges & coaches will be there, and if they fit the type of school you are interested in. National tournaments bring in national coaches & programs. Regional tournaments bring in regional coaches & regional programs. It isn't clear to me what kind of school you aspire to.

If your burst speed is 93 mph,and cruising speed is high 80's you will get attention. You just want to make sure that your exposure & communication efforts (resume, video, etc...) is targeted to the coaches and colleges you are most interested in. Most travel coaches that I've known will be your advocate with the college coaches. Ask your travel coach to guide you through this process based upon the schools you are most interested in. In addition, you can always come here for help.

You are a high school junior. You have plenty of time. Do all the things that you need to do to get your body ready for the high school and travel ball season. Your junior year will be very important. Also, make sure to keep your grades up and remain NCAA eligible. The better the grades the more options you have with baseball.

Best of luck, and please let me know if anything needs to be clarified.
