With 2 or 3 asst. coaches on staff... and doing nothing most of the time but coaching 1st base... How hard is it to delegate that one responsibility of providing the head coach with the exact amt of innings and pitches after each contest. And compare that to the book for validation. Keep a log, know the rules and tprovide the assistant before each game with a maximum innings allowed next to each pitchers name! Crazy
This reminds me of how much crap I caught in youth baseball from moms who were upset because I kept the book myself in the 3rd base coaching box! Keeping the book is everything. It allows you to review the game mentally and really know what's going on.

This is becoming an embarrassment.

Priority number 1 after last out of game has to be to go over rules to see who is available for next game and what their availability is.

Its arithmetic, not rocket science.

At least VHSL is interpreting its own rule correctly now.

Coaches, get on board with one simple point.  The rule has multiple requirements.  You must comply with ALL of them.  Complying with one of them does not absolve you of the necessity of complying with the others.  Ergo, if a guy is eligible under one part of the rule and ineligible under another, he is ineligible.  By extension, if he's eligible for multiple innings under one aspect of the rule but fewer innings under another, then the lesser limit applies.

The task is this:  Run each aspect of the rule with respect to each guy who's pitched in the past week or so.  Determine his maximum availability -- i.e., the most restrictive aspect of the rule -- and then make sure he doesn't go out there for one inning more.

What he said.  ^^^^^^

Simpson was okay to pitch that Friday after going 6 innings on Monday.  He was not eligible to pitch (by rule) on Saturday after pitching on Friday.  By rule he had to rest on Saturday before being eligible to pitch again.

VHSL didn't screw up, the coach did by not understanding all aspects of the rule.

These are the people teaching our kids aren't they?  Apparently you do need a PhD to figure out the rules.
