I found this relevant to the many discussins seen in our forum regarding safety issues. Being hit by a baseball at near 100mph, whether it be thrown or hit, can cause catastrophic results. Justin Morneau is a Stud and I believe his endorsement will turn some heads.

I remember Dale Earnhardt refused to wear the Hans Device which, in fact, would have likely saved his life. Now, I don't think there is a NASCAR driver not using it. Will this catch on in the MLB in your opinion? I see this as more likely to be adopted than the pitcher helmet.

I would think over the next few years, players will have so much body gear that he fear or respect factor of the hard baseball will go away. I'm against suiting players up in armor and padding to play this game. This is what maks baseball the great game it is and why many can't play it. Just the fear factor of the baseball itself weeds out early those who can or can't make it to the HS level and beyond. If these guys armor up, the baseball will be like playing with a sponge ball.

Now that the minor league players are required to wear the safer helement, I think we can expect the new generation of big leaguers to be more open to the idea of wearing the new helment.

The single earflap helement is kind of a badge of honor because you can only wear it if you're a big league player.

15 years ago I remember watching games on TV with guys wearing the catchers skull caps as batting helments.
