I proposed the following to a family coming to the Pitcher Catcher Event and, because of the distance,is planning on spending the night. They really liked the idea, so I thought I would propose it here.

If you are interested in participating and your drive merits having to spend the night:

1. Get a friend to register.
2. Most Valuable Player will organize the times slots near or at the same time.
3. Most Valuable Player will reduce the per/player fee by $30 to assist with the gas and the hotel costs.

What you need to do:
1. Both players must Register at www.mostvaluableplayer.biz Referencing a Name, "Mitchel Group," in the Notes Section of the Registration
2. Both players must go to the On-Line Store paying the full amount using a credit card.
3.Upon Check-In, Most Valuable Player will issue you a $30 check.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me or send me an e-mail at alm@mostvaluableplayer.biz.

Thank you for this Opportunity,

At the request of a couple pitchers, I am willing to allocate a early time slot to pitchers who are attending a tournament later that day.

If you do have something scheduled later that day, please note Most Valuable Player's approach is about safety, as well presenting you with the best opportunity to show well. We prepare you physically and mentally, then you only throw enough to show well and allow him to see what you have. The bottom line it is the right way, and if necessary you are capable of pitching in a game later that day.

Please note the college coaches are there from beginning to end, and the event is structured to permit each pitcher and catcher to be seen by each coach. So if you do have something later that day and would prefer one of the early morning time slots just let me know.

As always, thank you for this opportunity,

First I can assure you it is not done on purpose, which is another reason why I allocate time slots in attempt to be able to show a college coach your son's abilities and still meet any previous scheduled commitments.

Because the college coaches are there from beginning until the end, I

  • schedule kids who are attending an event with their fall team early in the day so they can get there. In fact we limit the amount of pitches they throw so they can throw later that day.
  • schedule kids around 1:00 for those attending events in the morning such as football meetings and those taking the PSAT.
  • schedule for a couple who have community service hours to complete that day.

I certainly hope you will consider the event for your son and you register right away.

Please let me know the time that best suits your son.

Good to know you are accommodating testing schedules Al, and nice website. Your credentials look great.

But I found this weblist too late to get him ready for your event this year, and it's just too far to get from his testing location to where you are on the same day.

He has been playing JV football this fall (starting nose guard)and not pitching, just long throw practice a few days a week, and he hasn't really had any time on the bump since last May. He would need time to get his pitch location tuned up before he was videoed or exposed to college reps.

And he has gotten much stronger physically than he was last year, his legs are starting to look like tree trunks. His weight is up to almost 190 (he's 6'2) and I don't know what that extra weight has done to his speed, although the baseball team has been doing some weight training this fall and the whole JV football team has been running wind sprints for two weeks because they tied their last game.

Do the pitchers bat at your event? His swing speed should be great, and his hand eye coordination good with all the golf he has been playing (we had to get extra stiff shafts on his clubs), but his timing will probably be off.

Would you recommend dropping into an event like yours without a few weeks of serious baseball training (not just off season workouts)if a boy hasn't been pitching for months?
Appreciate your kind words regarding the web site.

Because your son has been active and doing long toss I would recommend the event. The way we structure the event, meaning the process of plyos, stretching, long toss, flat ground to ensure a proper release point, then we only have them pitch about 12 minutes from the mound. The event is focused on mechanics and ability and not trying to get someone out.

We provide BP for the Catchers only.

Would love to have him if you change your and of course feel free to recommend it to others.

Nope, just not enough time to get there on the 20th. But I'll keep you on my list of options for next year. He's just a sophomore, and as I understand it from other posts on this board and elsewhere, college coaches don't really start showing serious interest until they are juniors. His school doesn't let sophomores play on the (varsity) fall baseball team, although they do work out with the team, so he went out for football. Next fall he says he wants to play bb. And he may be up to 6'4 or 5 by then, unless he stops growing.

BTW, can a player come for both the catching and the pitching? He caught a few innings for the JV team last year, and caught a good bit in LL when he was much younger (and a lot closer to the ground, LOL). In fact, he's played virtually every position on the field except SS. Boy loves the game, would play anywhere they let him play. If you're in need of catchers, I'm sure he would pitch in and do his best. He'd rather do that than sit on the sidelines watching other pitchers who are better than him.
I understand and in fact, this event is for Juniors and Seniors.

At the same time I agree College Coaches do not show an interest, but I believe parents and players need to get involved beginning as a freshman. To that I highly recommend my College Recruitment in a Box which provides you with directions on what to do to find a school for your son Academically, Athletically, Socially, and I wrote a program to help you assess where the costs, loans, scholarship, etc.. to determine what your out-of-pocket costs will be. Check it out at www.mostvaluableplayer.biz or call me at (410) 721-4203 if you have any questions.

With respect to Catching and Pitching. I will tell you I do not like it. Basically I believe it creates a pitcher who throws like a catcher. Unfortunately, when they throw from the mound, even though they usually throw hard, they are the guys with injuries down the road because of the catcher arm slot.

Seriously, if you have any questions, just give me a call.

Good point about throwing like a catcher. A catcher doesn't want his throws tailing out where the SS has to reach for them, and a curve would be tough to catch for a tag, you need a straight line from catcher to the tag at second.

But he hasn't played that much catcher, and I don't think his pitching motion looks much like a catcher. He's got a pretty good stretch, nice kick, engages the core, and tucks the glove in a very traditional pitching motion. If I knew how to post a picture I would. And he knows the way to throw is different for a catcher and seems to be able to differentiate between the two.

Like I said, I'll put you on my list for next fall. Hopefully we will be able to plan in advance and be there.
