Hello Baseball Community, We are exploring the possibility of moving to N.VA and wanted to get a little insight and opinions of the baseball community, specifically HS' in the Ashburn and Leesburg area. From what I can find most of the high schools in this area are competitive on the academic front so the big question is how are their baseball programs? We are scheduled to visit the area again in a couple weeks and want to get a better feel for which areas we should focus on to get the best education and baseball experience. Also, intrested in any travel ball or showcase programs that we should look into. Dont need a big name program just a well coached one.

I know you guys will want some insight into his playing ability so here we go! He's a freshman 5'11 155lbs - bats switch (much better R but working hard on his L) - throws R - runs a 6.9 60 - primary position MI (mostly SS but strong at 2nd as well) - secondary positions C, LF. He is currently the starting SS and back up C on the freshman HS team which is ranked # 1 in DFW, # 2 in Texas and # 47th in the nation according to MaxPreps ranking system. He grew up in So. Cal playing high level travel ball through his 13u year until we moved to No.TX last year. He's a confident player without the attitude and enjoys being coached. He has asperations of taking baseball as far as he can in life and walks around with a ball in his hand most days. He has a true passion and love for the game. With all that being said he is not without his faults.

Appreciate any insight and guidance you can provide.

I don't live in the northern Virginia area, so others will give you their opinions.

But the schools that have had good runs in the state playoffs the last several years from the Northern Va area are:

    Lake Braddock (Fairfax)

    Hylton (Woodbridge)

    Freedom-South Riding (Loudoun)

    West Springfield (Springfield)

    South County (Lorton)

    Woodbridge HS (Woodbridge)

Public Schools are governed by the Virginia High School league.  There are new classifications for the schools this year.

Travel teams include the NVTL Stars, Evoshield Canes, Richmond Braves, and Virginia Cardinals, (plus others).

Others will have to give you the inside scoop on the high school coaches, etc...

My son attended and played for a NOVA school in Fairfax County.  All the schools are great academically and field talented teams.  Lake Braddock has been the most consistent with a steady flow of D1 talent and great coaching.

The major travel teams mentioned are very good.  Some teams are at little to no cost (but very competitive with 90% D1 rosters) and others will cost.  All will showcase your boy in some very good baseball venues.

Being a N. Texas transplant, we were very happy with the quality of baseball up here and so will you.
