We are moving from Michigan to the fort worth area this summer was wondering if any of you could give some input on what high schools division 1 have good baseball programs also what travel teams would you recommend in that area or surrounding...my son is division 1 college level ball player  have yet to commit hes entering his junior yr when we will be moving down there   one of the main reasons for the move is to play more ball down there and go to college down there he could go to a few d1 schools up here but we would like to move south    any input would be greatly appreciated just to get me looking in the right direction   thanks

Arlington Martin has been nationally ranked for some years now. They are located in SW Arlington, just a few miles from FTW. Curt Culbertson runs a top notch program there.

Southlake Carroll always has a solid program as well. They are far NE Fort Worth. Affluent area, but worth looking into.

Fossil Ridge in Keller is solid. North of FTW up I-35.

It really depends on where exactly you are looking to move in the FTW area. There are solid programs in the North Dallas area as well.

Thanks for the input... What would you consider less competitive areas... I know politics etc.. Play a role in hs sports plus being the new kid on the block walking into established programs with kids already in the system will be tough  my son's talent is not an issue and we are leaving a sure  thing up here as far as going to a top d1 school but we feel in the long run this might be what's best... Please keep the replies coming I will consider everything that is said... Thanks again

Look into the schools and districts for academics if competition is not of much concern. There are a lot of Have's and a lot of Have Not all over the D/FW area. There are some programs who's JV could consistently 10 run rule V programs. Once again, it all depends on what area you are looking to move to. Look into the North Fort Worth area. Good schools and good programs. Keller ISD, Northwest ISD, Birdville ISD

+1 on Argyle.  Great coach and nice community.  Solid school too.  And, it always helps to have a good football program.

Maybe think about swinging by the neurologist's for a quick head exam before making the big change.    A sure thing is a sure thing, and IF you're really sitting on top of one for a "top d1 school" then why would you want to risk screwing it up by trying to optimize the hell out of things?

Wraggarm,
Was that really necessary to speak to a new member that way?!!
Shaneb,
Only you know what is best for your son, and your family. Nobody here can know the level of talent or desire that your son holds. Nor can they know of all of the reasons that your family may want to relocate, maybe getting away from those cold Winter's as well! Or that your career allows you that kind of flexibility to relocate, or that financially, you may just be at point in your lives. Whatever the reason, it's your business. Just make sure that it is what your son, truly wants too. That's a tough age to change schools, let alone make a complete move across the country. But again, that's your business.

And if you are serious about pursuing a career in Baseball, and have talent, I doubt that you would let the concern of facing competition hold you back.

It should be fairly easy to research High Schools and Colleges in the area that you want to relocate. When you narrow down the area, maybe coordinate some outings with a Realtor, visit some of the High Schools and College's at the same time, as well as catch a few games, to get a better feel for their Baseball Programs.

From there, you should be able to find direction in Instructors and Good Showcase Travel Teams.

Best of Luck.

I would make contact with member "Who's on first?" They moved to the DFW area from Michigan several years back. Their son developed in to a high 80's\low 90's lefty and didn't start on a large competitive 5A program. Father's job forced them to move to Atlanta this season but he may be a wealth of information from a fella who has traveled the road you are on. I would go to the Georgia forum and post a message to him.

It seems a little late in the process to be moving if baseball is the reason for it. If I understand correctly, your son is a 2015. The big D1s are very deep into recruiting their 2015s. So it is really about where your son is playing this summer, and there are good options which don't require uprooting the family. Since you mentioned Texas, is your son most interested in UT/TCU/Rice, or some other D1s?

The big programs recruit nationally, so I'm not following the logic of moving this late in the game to get recruited.

I'm originally from Fort Worth, lived in Texas 50 years. It is stinking HOT in the summer. Summer baseball is tough on the natives, and I'm sure a little extra tough on newcomers.

shaneb....what position is your son?  Who has offered him?  Here in OH & also in MI, the best of the best 2015's are committing to top programs all over the country.  My son's team had a couple of the real good 2015's from MI play with us last summer for a couple weekends.  They've committed to MI and KY.    If your son is getting offers from the top teams up here, why not just pass along his info to the southern teams?  Moving at this point and worrying about where he'll play HS baseball as a senior doesn't make a lot of sense.  He'll need to play this summer to get recruited...waiting until he's a senior is going to probably put him in a tough spot.  There are OH kids committed as 2015's all over the country...with many more to come to some of the top baseball schools in the country. Most of the big commits have been scouted at PG events...both in GA and last fall in FL.  I'm fairly certain none of them have been recruited exclusively (if at all) based on their HS production up here. Where they played HS didn't matter to the colleges at all.

Shelby, I disagree with your premise. When a poster comes on and states that he is moving to Texas because his son is a for sure D1 talent, is only looking at large schools, only top summer programs because talent is not an issue, he made it everyone,a business. And he also better have thick skin. Especially when using "we" when describing his son's career.

I haven't been to Texas in 30 years so all I will offer is to be careful. I would guess a for sure D1 talent in Michigan is a heck of a lot different than one in Texas.
Thanks Shelby what you stated Is all true we hate the winters... My business and finances allow us to move... Wife has family down in red oak that would like to move closer to I would ask them about baseball etc. .but they are not at all into it like that to know what schools are good for baseball let alone travel teams so I thought would be best to ask a baseball forum for just some input... We are not looking to move down to only the best school and travel team.. Not my intention when I posted just simply asking to find out who is who... Yes my son has the talent to play d1 college  ball up here.. Yes we would be leaving a d1 high school he plays for... Yes he might go to Texas and not make a top d1 college... But he would love to compete and be able to play more ball with some better competition even if it means going to a lesser high school or college... It's not all about baseball it's also about being able to let our kids pursue there lives down there were we would like to live instead of getting there lives and careers started up here. .. Will his talent be as good down there as here? Nobody knows but  you only get better and challenge yourself against better talent.. We may decide to stay till after school who knows.. I thank all of you for your input it has helped alot and definitely put us in the right direction.. Thanks again

Mizzou,
That's your prerogative to disagree.
It's all good. We can just agree to disagree.

Texas rocks, Shane -- and is as diverse as anywhere else. I hope you do your research ... and that it all works out. Would love it if you'd follow up after you move and let us know if your son was in fact as good here as he was there.

And Shelby -- no need for the "How dare you!" nonsense.

Your certainly welcome Shane.
I figured I was reading more intent in all of it. I couldn't agree with your reasons more.
FYI: as a newbie, just be careful in how you word or phrase things...as you can see, what can happen. And try staying away from words like "I" or "We"...and use "He"!!! LOL

Best of luck!
jp24: "And Shelby--no need for the "How dare you!" nonsense.

If this is what you were referring to...
Whatever! I still think it was unnecessary.

If it was in reference to my reply to Shane, I don't regret it. So, we can just disagree. It gets old seeing poster's being somewhat attacked, especially new members. Shane was asking about schools and travel teams in the Fort Worth area...not, whether we thought it was ok that that's what they'd chosen to do. So many posts do not stay on topic of OP.

Oh...FWIW JMO

Shaneb, I have actually just moved out of Red Oak within the past year. Solid 4a program. Coach Jay Johnson has taken a team to state prior to going to Red Oak, and has done well in his current time in Red Oak. Good talent this year just struggling, should have a good team for next year. As far as the schooling goes, it is open enrollment. May want to check into the numbers and testing scores however if Red Oak is being considered an option. Hope this helps somewhat.
