Great Read.....and I fully agree that the impact of the baseball changes are MUCH more significant than the TEXTing issue.

I cannot believe that anyone could not make the connection between transfers and 11.7. It can't be ignorance on the part of the presidents, such gross ignorance would just be too far fetched. $$$. Astounding.

working toward the "27 full tuition & fee scholarships" concept is a great idea, imo.

I was kinda surprised that Huskies coach spoke openly about how he recruits some guys with book money using fall as a tryout to run off his surplus, and also anticipates 10-15 walk-ons w/no $$ on his roster - seems pretty cold

Do you suppose that the NCAA thought about that when they proposed this? Kind of eliminates lazy recruiting on the coaches part.

JMO, if I were a parent of a recruit, I would be writing to the NCAA. I understand that the transfer rate is high, but what about a system where players could transfer and not have to sit if they were on track or had a certain GPA? Why is everything in black and white? Sometimes things just don't work out, now if the player has to transfer the D1 is out of the picture. It's not always about lack of playing time. The recruit in the end is getting the shaft!
Can we get a movement going?

Teams will be pitching and playing who they sign, win or lose. The better "coaches", developers of talent will prosper. Good recruiters will continue to do well. They don't get anymore do-overs though.

good point! and allowing the 1 time transfer exemption for those guys would be a logical reward, as those players have already accomplished the progress the NCAA is trying to legislate for others

QUESTION....Before the rule change, was baseball the only sport that got the one-time transfer exception?

I haven't seen anything so far that mentions transferring from D1 to D2. I may be wrong but isn't it allowed in football for a kid to transfer from those levels and avoid the 1 year wait?

If that is the case wouldn't that posibly mean that a lot of D2 schools just might get a lot stronger pretty quickly.

I honestly believe this is a very poorly thought out
plan and totally unfair for a sport that doesn't give full rides.

I am not one to turn down free money, but we are fortunate to be in a position where scholarship money is not essential. That leads me to a question: Is there an advantage/disadvantage to not being a scholarship athlete, particularly in light of these changes? It sounds like the school would have no choice but to give a 33% scholarship. Is that really the case?

All very confusing.

If I recall correctly, this change (at present) is only for D1.

D1's will not be able to give out less than a 33% 'ship.

Will redshirts get the 33% minimum? If so, the stockpile just got a little shorter. More space in the locker room though.

The fall certification requirement will eliminate eligiblilty edgey players from playing over the summer.

interesting topic- i hope that this will do more for the student-athletes' academically as well as helping them financially.

That's my point. If improving academics is one part to the changes, why not give incentive to the ones you are supposed to be helping to become better student athletes. If one wants to transfer then they know they have to maintain a certain GPA, can't argue with that one.

I heard today, not everything is etched in stone, many not happy, there might be adjustments coming.

It is not going to help. There will be more creative recruiting, between academics and actual baseball $$. That means higher grades and SAT scores will be needed. As far as better money, a coach who has to give 33% to more players will cut a player in a heart beat if he doesn't like him, ot make him miserable. Not that I do not feel that eveyone deserves it, but that's how it is with some coaches, scholarships are renewed yearly.

Redshirts don't count in the total. I am wondering if that means a whole lot of players that could play will be redshirted.
