If a coach took as much time as Mr. Matheny did to educate the parents on day one, maybe (ok I'm trying to be optimistic) he would find the parents would adopt a better understanding of the process and behave accordingly...

There's at least one coach, surely more, in the metroplex that coach this way and have the same expectations of the players.
Great post and I agree with everything that is said. In order for this to work there has to be integrity, honesty, ethics, trust, accountability and consistency among other things between the coaches, players and parents. If you have these things than all parties can buy into what the coach is saying.
