I've been given quite a challenge by our coach. Find a shorter version of the Star Spangled Banner sung by a woman.

I am using a very nice version by LeAnn Rimes (I may have misspelled her name), but am still looking. I have found the best version I've ever heard, and wanted to share it:
National Anthem by the Academy Choirs

I don't mind interpretations; in fact, there was a young man with a saxophone that did a wonderful job at a Rays game during the 2009 playoffs. I think it should be performed powerfully and proudly. Not like a durge. And it should be about the song and the country, not the singer. If you have other versions that you like, would you please share them?

Well it is not done by a women, but Jim Cornelison I think I have that right, does a great job at the Blackhawks games and both Bears games this year. Google it and have a listen as they might like it.

If you don't mind me asking what do they mean by a shorter version as this is not the song to take a shortcut around.

Yeah, but if there was someone from the music industry there, they wouldn't be able to follow along without the words.

I'm partial to the Jimi Hendrix version. No words, but 3:19 and probably too long for your purposes. My son wrote his college essay about this rendition and how it inspired him to learn (on his own) how to play the guitar. He's still playing today, and pretty good.

I hate that I don't have speakers on this computer!

By "shorter" I think he means without all the extra ululations that are so common when female divas sing it. But then he wants a female voice! I told him finding that version was an impossible task.

I like the Hendrix version, too, but I don't think our conservative crowd will go for it. Smile

USMC: National Anthem

.
I remember when Channel 63 in Ventura County, CA used to sign off for the night. They played the National Anthem by the USMC Band and Proud to be an American by Lee Greenwood at the end of the broadcasting day. If I was still up I stayed through the songs. Then I looked in on my little kids and went to bed. It was a great way to end the day.
