Collegebaseballinsider.com has named Army it's national team of the week after its first ever 4 game sweep of Navy in Annapolis and perfect 6-0 record last week.

Army has been starting anywhere from 3 to 7 freshman every week (something fairly rare in D1)and is beginning to play with great confidence after some early seasoning. Last weekends efforts vaulted the Black Knights into a tie for 1st in the Patriot League with two more conference weekends left.

Go Army, Beat Everybody!

This is a huge weekend for the Patriot League. Three teams are tied for first at 7-5 and two more are tied for 2nd at 6-6.

Army has gotten hot at a great time and appears to have a slight scheduling edge for the remainder of conference play. They play Lehigh this weekend and finish against Lafayette next week. Lehigh is better than thier record would indicate but with Cole White rounding into form after an early season injury the entire Army team has seemingly responded and played extremely well. Army could assure themselves of home field advantage in the conference tournament with a sweep this weekend. Lehigh will need to win on Saturday as they don't seem to be as deep in pitching as the weekend progresses.

Bucknell faces Navy in what should be a great battle. Bucknell took three of four from Army the first week of conference play and then dropped 3-4 to Lafayette the following weekend and followed that up winning 3-4 from Holy Cross last week. Mitch Harris vs Jason Bursma should be the pitching matchup of the weekend. I wouldn't be surprised to see a split in this series.

Of course the most interesting matchup this weekend for me is Holy Cross and Lafayette. Holy Cross has been surprising so far taking 3-4 from Army and sweeping Lehigh. Anything less than a split will put Lafayette in a very precarious position. Here's hoping the Lafayette bats heat up.

This is the only weekend this year where none of the websters sons that I know of do not face each other so I can honestly wish everyone good luck.
.

Just got back from the first day of Navy at Bucknell (beautiful campus). Navy took two from the Bisons pretty convincingly. Heard Army split and don't know about Holy Cross/Lafayette.

The Mids played "almost possessed" after their thrashing to the "Long Grey Line" last weekend. Might be what they needed to get to that next level...

Holy Cross took two from Lafayette yesterday. My hope for better hitting from Lafayette didn't come thru and we only scored two runs total on the day.

Now we have to win two today and root for Navy to take two more from Bucknell. So go mids!!!

By the way Holy Cross plays at a very nice field and the temps yesterday were near 80. One problem though, no snack bar, not even a water fountain. Got pretty darned thirsty by the end of the double header.
Army takes two from Lehigh today and doesn't allow a run in a doubleheader, while Holy Cross splits and Bucknell takes one from Navy before a rainout cancels the back end of their doubleheader.

Now Army and Holy Cross sit atop the Patriot League at 10-6 and Navy and Bucknell are tied for third at 8-7, with Lafayette in 5th at 8-9.

I just made reservations to be in West Point this coming weekend for the Army vs. Lafayette series. It should be an interesting last conference weekend!

Hope to say hello this weekend. It sure looks like a tough time to have been scheduled to play Army this year as it appears you guys are playing your best ball of the year. Congrats to your son for his fine performance and to the rest of the cadets as well.

Look forward to meeting you.

Go Leopards!!!

Having been on the receiving end of the losses to Army this weekend I can tell you that your son should have a lot to look forward to next year. Army is playing great ball right now and in my opinion they were the best in the conference. They start several freshman and appear to be set at SS and 1st for the next three years and the pitching we faced was outstanding.

The coaches were prepared, always positive and got the best from the players. I give them the edge to win the conference tournament and wouldn't be surprised if they pull off an upset or two in the regionals.
