TrueBlue:
Here is the definition provided by the NCAA from the D1 manual:
quote:
13 13.02.4.3 Quiet Period. A quiet period is that period of time when it is permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts only on the member institution’s campus. No in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts or evaluations may be made during the quiet period.
It just means that for D1 coaches, they are not suppose to actively recruit prospects during a "quiet period" unless the player is on their campus.
Lets consider the DEAD PERIOD for Division I Baseball

"DEAD PERIOD---not permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts or evaluations on- or off-campus or permit official or unofficial visits"

THIS BEGINS TOMORROW, Jan 6, 2005 <12:01 AM> and runs thru Jan 10, 2005 <12:01 AM>

WHY??? Perhaps because of the Coaches Convention which runs 1/7 thru 1/9 !!!

The quiet periods are designated on the recruiting calendar

There are certain dead periods --one within the current "quiet period" , another at the beginning September and one each before the early signing period and one before the soring signing period --the three "dead" periods outside of the current one are all in contact/evaluation periods

I hope this helps
I thought it was quite strange that our son received a call this past Sunday at 10:30am from the Assistant Director of Baseball at a D1 university. The call basically asked if he had signed yet and then asked if he would attend a 4 day workout camp this coming summer. Said he would have an opportunity to work out with the team. I was not only suprised by the phone call since this is the dead period, but also that they are discussing summer camps. My son is an '06. What gives?
