2013 catcher missed jr. Year due to injury, now missing sr. Year due to tommy john. Played a little last summer but velocity was down to 79 behind the plate. After second opinion realized surgery was best. Received interest from a few schools last year including a d1, told coach about surgery have not got a response since.  Travel coach says not to talk to any more coaches until healthy, but starting to get nervous with nothing in the works. Please give any advice you might have.

when healthy pop time 1.9 consistent, switch hitter, 3.6 gpa, 1800 sat, 6'1"  185

thank you

It sounds like you are looking for a vote of confidence. Let me say that I had a shoulder injury my junior year and did not play my senior year as well. I ended up going and playing college ball. It can and will happen if you do your rehab and find a summer collegiate league to play with. Keep your head up and know you can get to where you're supposed to go.

treg3,

Please understand that I don't know everything about your situation.  I'm the father of 3 baseball kids.   If you were my 2013 son we'd be looking at fulfilling your academics.  You're a smart kid with good SAT and GPA.  Use those credentials to get into a good school while checking out their baseball program.   Nothing in life is a guarantee but you've got a great start on the academics and you're a little behind on the baseball due to injury.   The injury may never heal, you don't know at this point.   I'd be trying to get into the best school you can possibly get into for your area of study and worry about the baseball later.  If you are healthy you could try out for a D3 school in the Fall, or request a walk on tryout at a D1 for example.  The one advantage many D3 schools have is most of their rosters aren't set until the Fall.  Most D3 programs that I'm familiar with would look long and hard at a switch hitting catcher with a 1.9 pop time, and very good academics.  Good luck!

Chances are your son's college admission will be based on academics. Select schools where he would have a chance to walk on. Follow each school of interest roster and recruiting. A positive word from his high school or travel coach (if they have clout) to the college baseball coach after he's healthy may help.
