My son is 13 and entering 8th grade. We are looking for a 14U travel team for next year that has excellant coaching and instruction. He has played two years for the Arlington Longshots under Tom Matsie and this year with a travel team in the far NW suburbs. We are not looking for "Daddy Ball" but a coaching staff that will instruct a ballplayer who is committed himself to the game. I have heard good things about Prairie Gravel program. Any others?

There are a ton of travel teams out there across the Chicago area. Make sure that you check out any team that are considering because "daddy ball" is also prevelent at the travel team level....

My recommendation is go to your local baseball academy and get recommendations on different teams. Then talk to the coaches. Do it soon because tryouts are usually held in the August-September timeframe.

Good Luck.
Observer, my son is a 2007 and plays for the 15U Prairie Gravel team. You can go on their website,www.priaiegravel.com and find a way to contact them. We live north but the driving is more than worth it because of the strength of the team, strength of schedule, and lengthy history of success and top coaching. It is the best thing my son has done and we feel very fortunate that he was asked to play for this team.
