I'm looking for a good camp for older HS players. Preferably for Spring break. I'm looking to send my son somewhere that will benefit him with some good coaching. It seems the only stuff available to the older kids are showcases and camps that also cater to 8 y/o's. Are there any HS/College specific camps out there?

Not too sure about "spring break" being a good time to look for possible camps. Both high school and college teams are in mid season by that time down here. If your son is a junior or younger, he/you can look into late fall/winter camps at many schools, especially here in the southeast. Check the school's athletic websites for camp listings. Some do have "all ages" camps but many are going more toward the high school age only, or at least 13 and up. Many of the summer camps include the little guys.
My son is a freshman (finally!) and has been going to camps for about 7 years. This year he and I really made the circuit, starting in November and finishing up last weekend. He attended camp at 6 schools. They were South Carolina, North Carolina, UNC-Wilmington, Georgia Tech, Elon Univ., and Campbell Univ.. I would have no problem recommending any of these as well as East Carolina which he attended last year.

Paul: My son (age 16) has been to several camps around the country - My recommendation (and his, more importantly) is Mickey Owen Baseball School in Miller,Missouri. (Summer only - no Spring camps.)A long way for you but well worth it. He has attended camp there for six summers - two weeks per summer first four years, then four and seven weeks the last two years as a counselor. They have a terrific program, especially in the month of July (more kids). It is about baseball - only. Training all day, intersquad games in the afternoon, play outside teams in the evening. It's not the Hilton - very hot, no air conditioning, etc. My son has played with kids from all around the world. Competition is excellent. Coaching staff all high school, college and former pros. They are now doing showcases as well- son attended one last year. Several D1, D2 and JC as well as MLB scouts. Web addy www.mickeyowenbaseballschool.com. Cost is app. $800. for two weeks. Son has also been to Bucky Dent's camp in Fla. - said it "was a great vacation" but not a lot of real baseball. I have no stock in this place except that my son is a great player and kid in large part due to this camp.Want more info let me know. John
The Clemson baseball camp changed my life - seriously! It gave me such a respect from the game and was taught by my personal baseball hero, Coach Legget. He taught me more in one week than I had known in the past ten years of playing. They worked my butt off, but it was worth it, and they actually care if youre learning. This past summer I stayed about an hour and a half each night after the night session of camp was over being taught by Coach legett, the pitching coach, Kevin O'Sullivan, and a former player, Nick Glaser, They all care a lot abot how you do. I cannot give it a higher reccommendation!!!!
If your son is a 2005 or 2006 (only Juniors and Sophomores are invited) I would highly recommend the Best in Virginia camp/showcase, 4 days of intense baseball instruction and the last day is a showcase. Top instructors are brought in from all over the Country to work this camp.

Two different weeks in July to choose from, cost is $500.00 which includes room & board.

Dennis Womack former UVA baseball coach and now athletic director has been doing this thing for 19 years and has down to science.

You can reach Coach Womack through the UVA web site.

Sells out every year.
