Well I've played ball since I was about 5 or 6 and now im a senior in HS and im 18. When I started playing I wasnt much of a player but after 2 or 3 years I began to develop and get better until I was a consistant hitter. Not a power guy but just consistant. I went on to babe ruth ball and saw the new pitchers and wasnt great but by my third year was hitting consistantly again. I moved onto HS then and figured the same thing would happen but now I cant hit a ball to save my life. I can bunt and that is about the only time I will get to the plate is if we need a good bunt. If someone could give me some basic drills like how to see the ball better, help my timing, and how to make better contact it would be a great help. The only reason I continue to make the team is because I pitch.

thanks
dphs
The one constant through all the years has been baseball. America is ruled by it like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game, is a part of our past.- Field of Dreams

Exactly what problems are you having?

Do you make contact at all? No power? Swinging late? Always popping the ball up? Always pushing or pulling the ball?

What books have you read about hitting?

What major leaguer does your swing most look like?

Have you heard of rotational hitting?

First, I would make sure that my head is completely turned so that both eyes can track the ball from the pitchers release point. You also need to make sure your head is still during load and unload. See if your head tilts when you swing. You obviously dont want that.
You may have too much weight transfer going either way causing the ball to move and your timig to be off. Keeping your weight transfer small may help. You also have to find out at what you are looking at before the pitcher is releasing. Do you focus on the big picture(whole body) or do you just make a box where his release point is. If you keep switching you may want to choose just one way. Just a few checkpoints to help make sure you are seeing the ball.
i figured it out!!! I've been hitting great at open gyms and its all thanks to suprisingly watching golf on tv. They showed the swing camera and the golfer kept his head absolutly still and watching the ball the whole way so i figured I'd try to apply that to baseball. Now im able to keep my eye on the ball watch it hit the bat and hit the ball. I also found an old paper I got a few years back and that help me with relaxing and not over swining so now im hitting better than I ever have.
