I would appreciate some well thought out advice from mounting speakers to speaker enclosures. How many speakers are needed? Should they face the field? The system will be used to announce players, play music before and after the game, and make announcements near the snack bar.

- Currently we have 4 outside speakers, 435 watts of power from the amplifiers, and one mic.

Any and all advice are welcomed.

Thanks,

Well, I'm not exactly an audio expert but I have had some experience in setting up a PA system where I work.

Be careful that the speakers and amplifier are of equal impedance. There are 4 Ohm, 8 Ohm, 16 Ohm etc. speakers available, and the amplifier needs to be matched to them. You'll still get sound out of the speakers if they aren't of the proper impedance for the amplifier, but you'd swear it was Charlie Brown's teacher talking.

In my opinion, a larger number of smaller, closely spaced speakers is better than a few large, widely spaced speakers.

There, that's about the extent of my expertise. Maybe someone else has been there and done that for an athletic field.
