I didn't know where to post this, it is not baseball related. Sorry.
I have been given a task of setting up and running a business for someone on ebay.
There are many things I understand in life, but this I don't. Is it my understanding that much money made is on SHIPPING the item? Does everything have to be a bid, is there another site that is better?
Anyone who has ever done this, any advice is appreciated.
Thanks

TPM,
There are several cd rom programs that help you set up the business. Do a search & you find them. The ebay site goes thru the motions too. Key is the mdse mix and glut of the same stuff.
The issue is making money! When you consider listing fees, final values fees, relisting items, loss leaders, paypal fees, credit processing, etc. right along with the huge number of "store fronts" offering the same merch... profits are minimal.
You can offer "Buy it now" pricing, but the same issues as above. I'm sure some folks make $$$, but it looks like the market is glutted, to me.
We used ebay for ticket sales for a baseball fundraiser 2 years.

I know people who make a solid 6 figure income doing this.
My wife knows about 10 people who quit their well paying jobs to do it.
Shipping is paid by the purchaser.
Ebay has full instructios on their site called E bay university. Like all businesses you have to have the right product at the right price .
I believe the suggested way is to set up an ebay store.
I know there are directions on ebay, just wondering if this thing really works and I know that people have made and still are making lots of money.
I know that the purchaser pays the shipping and handling. I also know that there is LOTS of money to be made in inflated postage rates, I was wondering if this was the key to this whole thing, profits don't seem to be too high when running an ebay business.
Example, if you buy a used book for 2 bucks , and pay 4.95 on shipping and handling guess most of the profit has to come from shipping.

Thanks
If you buy something for 50 and sell for 300 which I have seen lots of people do many times over. Some go to garage sales, auctions and others buy in bulk and sell by piece.
I don't know any that make money off postage and shipping. Buyers evaluate their experience with the seller and you would get some negative reviews. most transactions are done through PATPAL.
There are tons of books etc out there to show you how just like baseball. Everything you need is free on ebay university.
