Hey there everyone,

It is now my senior season,I have had a re-occuring injury for 2 years now.It costed me small parts of my junior season, and could potentially cost me the beginning of my senior season.

Through this all,I was healthy enough to get out this summer, and I have seen letters and emails from every level of baseball. Now,being that I am out until Late february,I cannot do any baseball, much less activity at all.

Now,I am supposed to work out for a few Junior colleges, and I was also supposed to attend a winter camp at a d1 here in the midwest and talk to the coach about a future with the program. What should I do?Should I call them and let them know of the injury?Should I try to lay low?Im very confused, and frustrated. Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks everyone

I don't think you'll ever regret being open and honest with people. If you have an ongoing injury, chances are good that college coaches will figure it out anyway, as you're likely to keep having it unless you get proper medical treatment. Get it taken care of now, so that you can go forward healthy. I know, it seems like the present is all that matters, but if you had it to do over, do you wish you'd shut it down last year and taken care of it properly so that you'd be headed into your senior year healthy?

My advice is that you should be seen by a doctor who knows how to treat whatever your injury is, and you'd do well to see someone who is experienced in treating athletes or especially baseball players if it is an arm injury. Give it time to heal and be honest if asked why you've temporarily shut it down.

You'll never regret taking "the high road" in dealing with people.
Thanks for the advice

Last year,I tried to come back before I felt 100%,and I am not doing that again. My bone had healed, and I was done with rehab, but I just didn't feel great quite yet. I should have lifted weights, and ran a bit more before I jumped back into the game.

Right now I am seeing an Orthopedic surgeon, and so I am in good hands. My injury is a hip and lower back problem that keeps coming back and nagging at me. I am getting it taken care of now though.

So the best approach is honesty at this point. That wont be easy, but I guess Ill make some calls this week. This injury will keep me sidelined for quite a while, potentially into march if it takes long.

I have shut it down, and will do so until likely next year, per doctors orders. I just have the thought creep into my head that I am injury prone. That is bothersome

Thanks for the help
I'd also recommend that you get with a good physical therapist very soon, as long as your orthopedist says it is OK at this point. You'll heal and get back to 100% a lot faster with a good PT directing your rehab. Any time that our summer players suffer an injury of any significance, they head straight for a local PT who works with the local AAA baseball club and our local university's ahtletic teams. He's done wonders for some pitchers with arm injuries, as well as some guys who've had leg injuries. I'd highly recommend seeing a physical therapist if your orthopedist gives you the ok to do so.
