Hi, I would appreciate any insights you might have to offer on this subject. Please don't interpret this as bragging, I sincerely seek your thoughts/feedback/guidance.
A little background on my sons:
First, I have two sons who play multiple sports.
My oldest son is 16, 6'1" 160lb Jr who plays wide reciever/D-Back(football) and catches/utility player for his for his 4-A High school team. (lettered in both varsity sports as a soph) Great student who want to go pre-med in college. His passion is baseball (enjoys football. He want to play D-1 baseball at a small d-1 liberal ARts university. The coach likes multiple sport athletes)
My youngest son is 14, 6'3" 205lb who QB's his 9th grade football team, power forward in basketball (voted top five player in his age group in our city of 500,000), and throws right handed in the low-80s--has four good pitches (His control improved greatly over this summer with his travel team experience). A recent doctors visit indicates his growth plates have not begun to close so the doctor said he has a lot of growing left to go. The coaches of all three sports want him to continue playing their sport. His passions are basketball and baseball.
My issue...how and what do I encourage them to do? My fear is that in playing multiple sports they will not get as good as they can in one (or two)sports. They also increase their injury chances. My gut tells me they both love baseball the best...
Again, I am not bragging about their abilities. I truly would appreciate your thoughts and opinions for a Dad who wants to help them continue to excel and meet their goals.
Thanks for your constructive opinions!
