My son is 16 (17 in April 04)and has been playing baseball in Europe (Germany)since he was 7. He plays on both the High School Team and a Traveling team where they play tournaments against adult teams from France, Germany, Holland etc. He is a very good pitcher with great control and at end of last season was clocked at 85 mph. He also has a really good change-up and curve. Last year he attended the Mark Cresse School of Baseball where he recieved really good fundemental training but they did'nt have but a few kids his age (mostly younger),and little pitching instruction (we did recruit one of the pitching coaches for a couple of sessions. This year I plan on sending him to The National Pitching Association and work with Tom House. Does anyone out there know anything about this clinic??? I really want him to get his name out there as this is his dream vocation. Also, he is a 3.5 GPA student.
Looking forward to hearing from you guys.
Thanks

I suggest you have him attend a Perfect Game event (perfectgame.org) as they are one of the best, if not the best in the business. If your son has these skills, PG will get his name out there better than anyone else. He will receive a TRUE professional evaluation and more exposure than any other service I have ever experienced.

I started out with nothing and I still got most of it..
Where do you live? You want to go where you can afford and what is around your area. It sounds like you live in the Southern California area. My goal is to get kids in Southern California the exposure they need, at an affordable cost. Where does he want to go to school at? Southern California area or somewhere on the East Coast? I reach almost all college coaches on the Western United States, please let me know I would like to help. Please check out our website link below.

Matt,
Well no, we don't live in CA at this time. We live in Germany next to Ramstein Air Force Base. I grew up in Rosemead, CA and then went into the Army for 22 years and retired and then went back to work for the Army as a civilian. My son has spent all of his baseball career in Germany except two years. I would like to talk to you and see what you think would be his next step in getting his name out there. He is really interested in Cal St Fullerton, UCLA, and FSU majoring in broadcasting (sports). If you send me an email torrisj@hotmail.comwith your phone nr. I will give you a call. If you don't want to give me your number, pls reply to this post.
thanks
Suggestion:

You need to get your son involved in some strategic showcases to increase his visibility to recruiters.

You can get him on a select team that will expose your son to the maximum amount of recruiters over the summer. A team that competes in competitive events that scouts attend..

Matt can guide you to the right people that best suit your needs. He does have numerous contacts.....

Send him to live with my family for the summer. I'll put him on my American Legion team and he can go to some showcases with my son. We need another good starter this year!!! He'll play in some decent tournaments and be seen by some East Coast coaches, but we'll get him to a couple camps and showcases as well. We are looking at College Select and going to camp at Florida Atlantic in August. We will most likely do Perfect Game as well. If you get him here by the end of March, he can play HS ball here and possibly make the Empire State Games team which is the best exposure NY has to offer.

I spent 7 years in between active and the Guard. My nephew is currently in Iraq with the 82nd and my brother in law is at Rucker learning to fly. My father is a retired W-4. What field were/are you in?
PFBEAR,
Thanks for the offer, but I don't think I could take him out of school. I know I need to get him to some showcases/tournaments and I am trying to figure out how best I can do that from where we are living at this time. Last year I did take him to the Mark Cresse Baseball camp in Costa Mesa, Ca where he got good fundamental instruction but like I said in an earlier post, there was only a few kids his age. This was the first camp he attended and now I want to get him some exposure. He was looked at last year at the Little Leauge Senior European Tournament by a scout from Minnesota and clocked at 85MPH and he said he will see him next year. Hope to get some good advise from Mark Slaven and see what I can do for him.
Thanks again for the invite.
I spent 22 years in the Army with most of it in Germany in Communications. I spent a few months in Saudi Arabia during the first Gulf War. My wife is from Binghamton, NY and I grew up in So. Cal.

Darn. Just lost another good prospect!!! There is actually a very good showcase in Binghampton aug 9-11(?) this year. Might be worthwhile for your wife to go home and "visit the family" for a few days!! It's called College Select and they pick teams out of their showcases to play in tournaments all fall. I know one player that played for them last fall and although, he's not real strong, he must have had the showcase of his life. His father said the entire experience was great and I'm sure the kid is musch better because of it.
