Well it looks like this newly formed district should be a powerhouse. Here are the 8 teams and where they finished in the playoffs over the last three years:

Playoffs 2009, 2008, 2007 respectively

Plano - Top 64, na, Top 64
Plano East - Top 32, Top 128, Top 128
Plano West - Top 64, #1 State, Sweet 16
Allen - Top 32, Top 32, Top 64
Flower Mound-Sweet 16, Elite 8, Top 32
FM Marcu - Elite 8, na, Top 64
Hebron - na, Top 128, na
Lewisville - na, Top 128, Top 128

There will be no easy games here (not that there should be). This district may come to the playoffs bruised but they will have been battle tested. IMHO

DD, just curious, how many State and Natl Championships had 6-5A won?

As with any district, 6-5A in it's current alignment has only been in existence for 1 year...so let's focus on last years's results of the 4 playoff teams (Coppell, FM, Marcus, Southlake Carroll).

1) Coppell, probably the most talented team in the district last year, lost a coin toss and then lost a 1 game series (if you can call it that)to Grapevine
2) SLC loses in the 3rd round to district foe FM in two 1-run games (final 32)
3) FM loses in round 4 (final 16)
4) Marcus loses in round 5 (final 8)

Just because a district doesn't produce a State or National Champion doesn't mean that it's not the toughest district night in and night out. Only 1 district in the State each year will be able to brag about having the State Champion. So my comments are not that district 6-5A has "The Best" team (singular), but that it has the best overall level of competition from top to bottom. BTW...with the current 6 team district in 6-5A, each team has to play each other 3 times. Do you want to sign up for 15 games with either SLC, FM, Marcus, Coppell, Hebron and Lewisville?

Based on your comments, I'm making an assumption that you're a Plano West guy...touting your State Championship in 2008 (which by the way) was a 10-8 win over Southlake Carroll. Congratulations. That was a fantastic team in '08. SLC returned the favor knocking out PW out last year in Round 2 in a 1 gamer...not because of a coin toss but because of the Swine Flu debacle.

Healthy debate...see you in the stands!
DD,

Just like the immortal Ricky Bobby said "if you ain;t first, your last", so with no big time pelts on the wall it is hard to justify your logic. BTW, PW did beat your best team twice last year and did lose to SLC as you pointed out in a one game fiasco.

Although, I will agree there are some quality teams in 6-5A and they should do well in 2010.I would suggest toning down the rhetoric until something real is accomplished at the State and National level.

You will have to excuse hornsr1. He is young and quite the PW "homer"

Wrangler, Thank you for the warm welcome! The 6-5A folks are excited about the competition in next years 8-5A. I feel like it will be just as strong or maybe even a stronger district than this year's 6-5A. I would imagine the competition will bring more attention to the players in the district from scouts and college coaches. Bottom line, every good player wants to play in a district as competitve this one?
