As far as my expertise goes, the only legal issue that can probably arise is whether you have a composite bat or not. Some leagues will allow it while others not so I guess for starters make sure they allow composite bats.

If I wanted to be the wise guy though, I'd say what's legal is what is allowed and what's illegal is not allowed. Just a bit of dry humor there. I know some posts don't receive replies until it's too late.
I see two things in the article:

a. They are seeking further clarification, and

b. If the NFHS contiues to define the bat specifications in the current rule change, effective on January 1, 2012 which specifies the bat should be a smooth cylinder implement from the top of the cap to the top of the knob, that defintion will eliminate 2-piece bats like Easton's Stealth and Demarini's Voodoo et,al.

Interesting, as the NCAA temporary ban does not effect 2-piece bat construction as long as the barrel is not constructed of a composite material.

It has been my experience most kids outgrow a bat before it needs to be replaced, if it is not a team bat or mistreated (emphasis = most).

I know at age 14, (5'09 160lb) GED10 hit with a 31/28, at 15 he hit with a 32/29, briefly, and a 33/30. Now, at (6'01 190lb) 16 he's hitting a 34/31 Voodoo. I know the previous years we passed the smaller/lighter bats down to JV or Freshman friends and some are still bangin' away with them.

As a side - I wonder how the 2012's will hit differently between their Jr and Sr year if they continue to use a banned bat up till 01/2012. It will be interesting to watch players adapt to the new specs, just like older players did after the -5 days.

Either way, I'm gonna enjoy the ride 'cause the train only comes by once! GED10DaD

That's a good question GED. My son is a 2012 and swings a 2010 speed in games. He does hit with a baum in BP so I'm hoping the transition won't be too awfully difficult. The real difference I see will be pop or lack thereof.
