NEW "Cream of the Crop" Class of 2012 Prospect Feature

We have been working on updating our Class of 2012 "Cream of the Crop" (FREE!) Prospect Feature! A couple of changes, plus updated write-ups on most of the players.

Pictured is Western Branch standout Garrett Brooks! His high school coach, Roland Wright, told us "Garrett has the ability and opportunity to not only play baseball at the collegiate level, but also at the professional level. Garrett has tremendous range and arm strength in the outfield. Garrett also has the ability to drive the baseball with power to all sides of the field."

Congrats to the 20 players that made the list. Noticed that 3 were uncommitted. Any update on where they are headed?

Cream of the Crop List:

13 pitchers
3 Center Fielders
3 Catchers
1 Middle Infielder

For whats it worth, I think at least 3-4 of the pitchers are considered 'two way' players and may in fact attempt to pitch and play other positions at the next level. Some of the experts might be able to comment further.

I don't think it to be that unusual that the pitcher count be that high. I looked at our 2011 list 2011 Cream of the Crop Listing

There are eight pitchers on that list.

Nothing against any of the kids on your list, but I guess good hitters are a dime a dozen.

Counting the 2-way guys, over half of those listed are hitters. Bridgeman, for example, was first team All Central Region last year as a first baseman after hitting something like .550.

This list is not exactly who I would have chosen were I acting on my lonesome, but I don't see any glaring mistakes there, either.

Thats why we ask about 50 people, then compile a 'consensus' list. Probably not one person (coaches, scouts, 'others')we asked would come up with this exact list. Receiving a lot of favorable feedback from college coaches, pro scouts, etc.

VaPreps does a very nice job at reporting and getting Virginia kids GOOD exposure ! Please keep up the good work !!!
Ps... Their lists are typically 95%+- accurate IMO.

Unfortunately the system won't allow us to indicate multiple positions. We will add that in the text portions going forward.

I love Virginia Preps. I think they try very hard to give as much exposure to deserving players as they can. There are alot of good players in VA...almost too many. In fact I don't think even the local colleges understand how good the baseball has gotten over the past 5 years here. I really see no reason why they would be recruiting kids from out of state...other than pitchers.
