There is nothing like the feeling of getting a new baseball cap. It looks great on the shelf and you start to envision yourself sitting at the ballpark watching your team in your (what is soon to be) new baseball cap. A perfect fit on your head. You make the purchase and set the cap upon your dome and soon realize.... Frown that you look like a train engineer and the crown of the cap sits what seems to be over 6 feet above your head. It was not to be.

This has been the case too many times for me, but as we all know eventully the cap does break in and fits just as you had dreamed at the initial purchase. Anywho my question is how do you guys break in your New Era fitted hat. I've have found the best method is to simply wear the hat during excercise and somehow the sweat pulls the crown down a bit and the band conforms to your head. Do you have any funky meathods of breaking in your new baseball cap or are you like me and simply wear it???? Thanks

I found this list on the e.How website:

Breaking in Fitted Baseball Caps

Step1 Wash the cap in warm water immediately after purchase. It is best to use the dishwasher for the breaking-in process; just be sure there are no dishes in the washer when you wash the baseball cap.

Step2 Take the baseball cap out of the dishwasher and mold the bill of the baseball cap in the shape you desire. The warm water will allow you form the bill correctly.

Step3 Place the wet cap either on your head or another object that is roughly the size of your head if cannot stand to wear a wet cap. If you wear the wet baseball cap, it should mold perfectly to size of your head.

Step4 Keep the cap on your head or the other object until it is completely dry. You should now have a broken-in baseball cap that fits your head like a glove.

The key is finding an object that is roughly the size of your head:

One thing I noticed as my son moved from HS to college the hat he played baseball in wasn't a fashion statement but a tool of the trade. I know in the pros he wasn't supposed to wear anything in public that indicated he was a member of the team and it may have been the same way in college. In college you didn't see baseball players wearing their baseball hats around in public. But as far as his non-playing hats ---- he still takes good care of his golf and casual hats but doesn't "mutilate" them like he did when he was a kid.

I did this once but what I did not know was not to use dishwasher liquid, some have bleach, and what was suppose to be a Black Whitesox cap turned into a gray Whitesox cap.
