I'd like to send out congrats to my assistant coach Dustin Sykora for being named head baseball coach at Marcus High School.

I wish him and the kids the best of luck and I hope they keep it rolling. Remember...it doesn't matter where you finish in district...just get in and get on a run!!!

Coaches nominate their players based on district stats and then the coaches vote. It's that simple. A coach can't vote for his own players. Are there politics and such on occasion? Certainly. Prior to voting, the coaches agree on "superlative" awards --- like District MVP, Most Valuable Pitcher, Best Defender, Newcomer of the Year, etc. In most cases, those that win the superlative awards are replaced on the 1st teams. If Gill made it for the 2010 season -- and I honestly don't remember if he did -- he was selected by the 6 district coaches, other than Art.

Oh, most of the time I made the lineup but sometimes when funds were running low our booster club would hold a raffle to let people try and win a chance at making out the line up. Wink

The best selling raffle was choosing the starting pitcher when MG was injured!!! It was funny how the same 3 or 4 parents would buy up all the tickets!!!

The best raffle seller was to decide whether we flipped for 1 or went 2 out of 3 in the Regional Semi-Finals. Those tickets sold like hot cakes!

I mean, isn't that what they do over there???

Get Real...Marcus is very much in my rear view mirror. After each of my statements I put a smilie which is usually an indicator of sarcasm.

Since you are a new member (apparently), you probably don't know the history between longballs and myself. I was just trying to have a little fun with him. I know that you can't really see sarcasm on a computer screen so I apologize.

As for "the player," I hope he stays. I still talk to those kids at Marcus and I hope they make the playoffs and win the state title next year.

Most likely developed from an English game called rounders, baseball was most definitely NOT made for kids.

Anyway, lighten up. Enough talent and kids go through that school to where they will be competitive every year. Just don't get to used to the runs the team has gone on the last two years. Not saying it can't be done, though.
baseball chick,

Thanks! I'm getting to meet a bunch of my Sherman kids since I'm coaching football. I used to think that only coaching baseball was the way to go. Now though, coaching football and being on the football staff I'm "one of the guys" in the coaches office. This was something I never was at Marcus. Oh well, you live and learn.

I will miss those kids coming back at Marcus and I agree, there is plenty of talent there and more on the way.
