Observer 44;

Many, many years ago, Jack Stanford [later a SF giants pitcher] and I dedicated the baseball field at New Mexico State in Las Cruces.

We were in the US Army, playing baseball at White Sands Proving Ground and Ft Bliss.

Because of the "light" air, the ball "flys out" in this ball park.

Did you know that the U of New Mexico is playing at Stanford University on May 10? Maybe you ask the New Mexico players and coaches about New Mexico State.

They also play at St Mary's on Monday the 11th.

Our Aussie baseball friends are visiting and we will attend this game. They have a "mate" playing for UNM.

44,

New Mexico State does have one of the highest W/L % this year.

When watching their players they have several huge players that fit into the home run hitter stature.

They are built for the type of field and elevation they play in, they hit a lot of home runs but they also have a lot of good hitters with high BA's.

To be successful as a pitcher you have to be a sinker ball pitcher who can keep the ball on the ground.

This year they have played a lot of home games early on and had a lot of success and were rewarded for it in some of the national rankings, but have slowed a little when they hit the road and the WAC conference.

It looks like the players are enjoying themselves, but I think their winning ways would tend to bread happiness. When watching them, the coaching staff has taught them well, they know how to play quality baseball.

They don’t have what I would say top recruits and have done well with that they have brought in. JMHO
