dribbler - Welcome to the HS Baseball Web.

There is a lot of info on this throughout this site, but I'll try to summarize in a nutshell. For Division-1 baseball:

* Beginning this season, scheduled games cannot begin before the last weekend in February...used to be late January. Same number of games (56).
* Roster limits of 35 players beginning in 2009 season.
* Players on athletic scholarship must receive at least 25% (many used to receive less).
* No more than 27 of the 35 players can be on athletic scholarship.
* Players who transfer must sit out 1 year of playing baseball and be "resident" at their new school for 1 school year. This is essentially the same as for football and basketball.

There are also some more intense penalties for schools failing to maintain a minimum level for their players' Academic Progress Rate (APR). But those are largely invisible to the parents during recruiting other than coaches will likely be looking for solid students more often.

I think I hit the big ones. Again, welcome! Wink

Justbaseball gave a very helpful synopsis of the rule changes -- and in quite a pleasant way, I might add! Smile One clarification: players must sit out only if they're tranferring from one D1 to another D1. If they transfer to a lower division, they will not be penalized.
I am always what I am---let people do their homework before asking questions-- people want everyone to give them the info without their digging and due dilgence in terms of research--if you do not dig and do research you have no idea about the subject other than what a website poster tells you-- and is what he/she tells you the true fact??? Being on the website does not make it true and factual!!!

This is the problem with our society today- they don't dig and research things--they expect it all to be given to them---WRONG!!!! Do the required research and then ask questions--

Sorry if you do not agree but that is the way it is

But if all the people do their own research then some people would not have 11,000+ posts....

I thought this was supposed to be the place where one could come in to do research and ask questions? From what I can tell, Dribber is just getting his feet wet, it's not like the guy has over 11,000 post and is now the know all, end all expert. Mad

I am certainly glad that I was not treated with so much venom when I finally got up the nerve to ask a question. But that's just the way I am. Wink

Welcome Dribber! I think you will find this to be a very helpful website with plenty of folks willing to answer your questions.

Observations...

TR...I don't care what we say, (and I know this'll get into your gristle)...We love ya!

Dribbler...Welcome! It can be a quite lively place but our hearts are in the right place...

Woodman...A figurine of a singing nun? My Gosh, Can't even Google that one...Bravo!...Now find me on in a Bobblehead model...and I'll saint you...

Homerun..."But if all the people do their own research then some people would not have 11,000+ posts...."...Got a good laugh out of that thanks!Classic! The only other way to 11,000+ is the karma thread...

Justbaseball...just like you...It took us a year, to wrestle with this stuff and you synopsise right down in a single quiet post!

Cool 44
.
Gotwood...love the post with the Nun...next time though try and give her a ruler!!!

Also, lay off TR. As a long time Connecticut Yankee and practicing curmudgeon we should all know that TR is right...always 100% of the time.

Frankly, TR is like the old umpire who can't call balls and strikes. But as an umpire we're his fans cause he calls em like he sees em ...bad for both teams!!!
TW344-

Plese first, just let me say what a wonderful question you have. We here a the hsbbweb welcome any and all questions and hope that we can give you clear and concise answers at all times. Please accept our sincere pleasure in assitsing you in anyway.

Yes, it has been confirmed. The NCAA has made some "new rules"
about baseball.
And of course, you deserve a flower

SO THAT'S WHERE SHE WENT AFTER SHE LEFT MY SCHOOL!!!!! To yours!!!! Only she hadn't changed her name yet to her "given name"--she was known as "Sr. Mary Holy Terror"!

Ya gotta love those nuns, though.....especially the sayings they would come up with---such as (when you were daydreaming ...)"Stop posing for Holy Cards!"angel

I thought that was what us "Ole Timers" were here for, to give advice and answer questions. Instead of grilling the the guy, why couldn't you have directed him/her there? I understand that one needs to research. I research when needed. But, if I can't find what I am looking for, I ask.

Dribbler, welcome to HSBBW. Don't be afraid to ask.
To all of my enemies---it has nothing to do with right wrong--it has to do with people taking the asy road and letting others do their worl for them---our conntry has become the same way---why do what you need to when other swill do it for you

I won't answer all the individual posts because I have become used to it and in fact enjoy listening to the responses---people dont want to hear what they need to hear---too bad because they should---

And it does get boring reading posts about things that can be looked up right here on this website

Sorry if people do not want to hear the truth

Thanks for the flower. I find the hospitality [most of the time] REALLY GREAT on this site. I find you one of the MOST HOSPITABLE. I will continue to rely on the people posting on this site for answers to questions I do not know and will attempt to answer questions I DO KNOW THE ANSWERS TO for those people that ask them. Most of the rest of the time I will read but stay quiet [hence after two years I am still a member but just a member].

Unless of course, I get the opportunity to add a little levity to a thread I thought might be either dead or going somewhere else. I will continue to do that on occassion.

See you on the flip side.

Ummmm,.....since when,..and who, put YOU in charge?

What if you asked a question about the MLB draft and I told you to eat your peas before your carrots?

people dont want to hear what they need to hear---too bad because they should---

Advice that can go both ways.

Good grief. The audacity to tell someone WHEN they should ask a question. Roll Eyes

Impatience is obviously not a virtue.

Lets get back to baseball and the question at hand about the NCAA.
I for one have been reading,..and researching,..and interpreting,..and reading some more,..... and I am still not sure about EVERYTHING/ANYTHING.
