My 14 year old son has been asked to pitch in the pool games for his team when they play tournaments. He has been a catcher since he was 7 and does catch all the brackett games. What would be some good stretches and exercises for his shoulder? He has been experiencing soreness and stiffness so we ice it after the games. I know the mechanics are different for the different positions. What are some of the recommended videos out there for us to learn the mechanics.
He will be catching in High School next year so I am trying to get him through this year without hurting his arm.

The throwers ten exercises are good for the shoulder. Google "throwers ten". I'd recommmend stretches for GIRD for the shoulder. Google +GIRD +stretches. You'll probably also want to rest the shoulder for a few days to get rid of the soreness and then work back into pitching more gradually. Shoulders don't handle sudden increases in workload or intensity very well. Almost every pitcher gets a sore shoulder for a bit during spring training. They used to just throw through it but these days they tend to back off and then work back into it more gradually.

If there's pain as opposed to soreness then shut him down and get him to a doctor.

I thought Jobe excercizes were done with the can filled with sand or a 2 or 3 pound weight. If not what ever those are called are good exercises. They are very easy too. Just let your arm hang and do a set of 20 small circles clock-wise, then 20 counter clock-wise,20 side to side. These stretch the rotator cuff. Make sure and let your arm hang dont force the movements. At 14 I would reccomend going with the can, fill it with sand and tape it up.
