Hi Ladies,
This is my first post here, though I've been reading the boards for quite some time. There seems to be a wonderful network of support here and I would like to ask for your help in prayer. My sister's 9 yr old nephew is currently in a coma and fighting for his life with the Triple EEE virus. For any of you in New England, he is the little football player from Middleboro MA. His chances are very slim at this point and we are praying for a miracle. Any and all prayers would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I am the proud mom of a LHP that we just moved in for his freshman year of college. He is at what we hope is a great fit for him, a DII school only 40 mins away....makes it easier for Mom Smile

Thanks again for any prayers and wishes to help ease this family's pain.

Ann

Ann (aka MaBBMom) ...

Welcome aboard, tho it is a sad situation that brings you to your first post.

Consider your beloved nephew and his family in prayers from sunny So Cal. We have lots of great prayer warriors here so you can rest assured that he will be prayed for long and hard.

I am not familiar with Triple EEE virus (time to do some googling I guess) but I believe in miracles and we can only put him in God's hands now.

God bless.

Mary Ann
Thank you Mary Ann. Triple EEE is Eastern Equine Encephalitis, and it is carried by infected mosquitoes. There have been 3 human cases reported in Southern MA this year...little Johnny being one. One 23yr man is recovering and in rehab, a woman remains in critical condition. The disease is fatal in 35-50% of cases. Just one of those freak things that is hard to find any sense in. Of all the thousands of people, and millions of mosquitoes, this little boy should get bit by one carrying the virus. They believe he most likely got bit during Pop Warner football practice. A very tragic situation. We are in Northern MA, and bugs in our area have tested positive, so they are resuming pesticide spraying tonight.

Thank you for the prayers and kind wishes,
Ann
MaBBmom,

So sorry to hear about your sister's nephew's condition, and I am also praying for him. In the past few years I have asked for prayer requests here for two serious conditions which have both turned out with happy endings. My nephew was going through cancer surgery and treatment and is now cancer free. And this summer my son's good friend Ben was found by his mom, appearing dead in his bed of cardiac arrest, but was revived and then in a coma for over a week, with scary prognosis on brain function. Hundreds of people were praying for Ben, and he is now fully recovered (with a cardiac device in his chest) and returned to his college for fall semester last week.

I believe in the power of prayer, as the other ladies here do, and we will continue to pray for your young relative's recovery and for comfort for his family.

Also, welcome and best wishes to your college freshman son.

Wow, I am overwhelmed by the responses. Thank you all so much for your words of encouragement. This situation is made even more tragic for my sister's family given their family history. Little Johnny is her step-nephew, his stepfather is my sister's brother-in-law. This same brother-in-law lost his biological son 5 yrs ago at the age of 13 when he was struck and killed while riding his skateboard. It is times like these that really try one's faith! I do believe in the power of prayer and that is why I am so grateful for the responses here. My nieces are extremely close to Johnny, they live in the same town and one is the same age...she cheers for his football team.

LadyNmom....we are in Haverhill, right on the S. NH border Smile Son almost went to UMass Lowell, but opted for a smaller school environment Smile

Deepest Thanks,
Ann
FutureBack.Mom and LadyNMom,
I was just reading some of the previous topics and wanted to send both of you healing thoughts. It is so caring of you both to respond to my plea while dealing with your own health issues. I think I'm going to like it here Smile
I hope you are both on the road to recovery, and that you were able to get through your surgery (LadyNMom).

Northern Essex is right around the corner from me Smile How long ago were you there? And how long have you been out of state?

Ann
MaBBMom....too many years ago! Think the current campus was fairly new when I attended....

I moved out of state about 24 years ago....took a job promotion to Los Angeles....was only going to stay in LA for a couple of years...and then go back home.....but met my husband....
and we all know how that goes.........

Please keep us posted.....
MaBBMom, I hope you don't mind that I'm going to post a link to Johnny's story I just happened on. The picture of an adorable little boy certainly brings your loss even more to our hearts. I'm a nurse and wasn't familiar with this disease at all. In our area, the West Nile Virus is the concern that is most commonly transmitted through mosquito bites. Thank you again for sharing Johnny's story with us.

MaBBMom ...

My heart is so sad right now after reading that Josh has passed. Sincerest condolences and sympathy to his family and loved ones and friends. He was obviously a precious and special boy, something that shows through in those bright eyes. God has another special little spirit in His realm today and we can take some comfort in that.

Having lost my older brother ... at the tender age of 8 (I was 7) ... to measles encephalitis, and knowing the devastation that the loss of a lovely child causes for a family, my prayer to our Lord is that Josh's family will find some peace and solace at this tragic time.

God bless.

Mary Ann
