Couple weeks ago I took my son his first showcase event. (2017 MIF) Two days after the event, thinking nothing would come from the first time but experience, a college contacted my son by email saying they saw him at said event, and wanted to track his progress and invited him to a camp. What does this mean? How serious is there interest? The school is D2. How do we proceed from here?

Welcome to the site.  The wording you stated sounds exactly like the usual mass mailer wording sent out by many colleges promoting their camps.  Did they call out any specific points of performance that was unique to your son that day/weekend?  If not, I'm pretty sure that's what he got and if he continues to showcase, it won't be the last.  You've come to the right place to navigate through the process.

Welcome to the site. As Cabbagedad said it sounds like the typical mailer.

First off, is it a school he would be interested in? Is it an Academic and cultural fit. Does it offer a major he would be interested in?

Does the email have contact information in it such as the recruiting coordinators or coaches email and phone numbers?

This may be an opportunity for your son to get his feet wet, by reaching out to the coach and asking some questions. Where did you see me? What did you like? The list can go on. But  he can use this to get used to talking to coaches. It may be an opportunity to  polish his approach.

Even if it is a mass mailer, take the opportunity to get some practice.

The school is pretty rural.

Again they didnt reach out to others on our team that were there.

My sons HS has SIGNED 3 D1 MIF in last two years.

The school lost the conference championship to a team with several players from our area.

OK great.  As someone in your other thread mentioned, great time for son to reach out and see what's up.  I will ask again, though, did they mention anything specific about son's performance that was unique to him that day/weekend?  Also, is it RC's contact or HC?  When son does call, it would be wise to have him prepared to ask some questions that may help shed some light on their level of interest vs. wanting to get him to camp.  i.e. - What game did you see?  What parts of my game do you think I should be working on the hardest?  What was it that got your attention?  These questions are reasonably comfortable and not pressing the issue but may give you insight as to their level of interest.

BTW, you don't have to keep both threads going and duplicate your messages.  I think those following will be able to pick up with one or the other.
