Our high school didn't budget for any bats. The kids all have their own. I'm not sure that would always be the case in NYC.
Average varsity scores, in a pretty balanced league, were likely 5-6 runs total in his games. His team had good picthing and light hitting so overall league was probably higher - just a guess. 7 inning games averaged under 2 hours. Hitters adjust pretty quickly (public schools use metal and some struggle early in summer which is also wood) overall.
