The stadium is newer and very nice. Looks like a pitchers park with long alleys.
The school itself is very small, about 1100 population with 50% being athletes.
My son is a juco transfer starting there on Friday. He is very excited to start working coach Triplett and his assistants.
Send me PM if you have any questions. I'll answer what I can from our experience so far.
We had the same impression and have heard only good things about Coach Triplett. We visited a few weeks ago and like it a lot. My concern is the size as it is smaller than our HS. And the transition of the AD & School President.
Thurm, I pretty sure the AD is coach Triplett's father-in-law. Trip's wife is the softball coach so I imagine they all have the same goals for the athletics of the school.
The size of the school has not been an issue at all with my son. His high school had almost 3000 students so I hear you. He hangs out exclusively with baseball players and their seems to be no shortage of pretty girls from what he tells me.
smalltownmom, my son still loves the school, the team and the coaches. Coach Trip and his main assistant are in their early thirties and they relate well with the players. This does not mean he is a pushover by any means. When they got back to school after winter break the practices went 4-5 hours long. For a week the coach thought things were sloppy so after a 4 1/2 hour practice they ran sprints for 45 minutes.
Personally I love a coach like that. He can communicate with the players but still commands their respect. My son didn't complained about the coach when telling me about these practices. He admitted that they were making mental errors during practice.
I would highly recommend Newberry/coach Triplett to anyone!
Opening day tomorrow at 4pm. I'll be on a 630 am flight tomorrow morning for the 4 game weekend series.
