I was referred to this site now that my son is in HS. He has been playing travel ball since he was 10, Super NIT, USSSA, ect.

Kevin made his High School Varsity team as a freshman (4A school). Just finished the fall season and he slowly moved up to the #3 pitcher in the rotation, going 3-1, 1 save, and a few good outings in mid relief.

I always thought that players were not looked at until they hit their junior year. Someone told me to hit some showcase tournaments now. Would it be worth while being only a freshman? If you recommend doing this, which ones? New to HS and showcases, so any advice greatly appreciated!

In case you're sitting there waiting for a response, the answer is yes given he'll be a soph in the spring. I'll pass on providing partial advice and suggest waiting for the experts in this field to provide advice for your area.
Showcases -- not yet.

PG WWBA tourneys next summer are highly recommended. Find a team that will enter the 15u and the 16u tourneys in East Cobb and go to both. These tourneys are especially helpful in getting pitchers into the PG database, which can do wonders, esp. if your son has high velocity or something else (e.g., nasty breaking pitch) that will catch somebody's eye.

Tryouts are in the fall for the spring team? What happens to athletes playing football, s****r, cross country, etc.? When you said he made the team as a freshman I figured that was last year and he would be a soph this coming spring.

Texan,

Your right, and Sandy is right. Kev has no problem jamming when the time is right. Not the lefties though....

Midlo,

Thank you for the support, Not high velocity, but great control, location, great movement on the fastball, and good off speed. Not overpowering, but as our ace's dad said, speed will come as he matures and gains strenth.

RJM,

He has already made the #3 spot for the upcoming spring season. Your right, but we have only 2 coming off our football team. Short and Left field. On the other side, the opposing teams will add at least one stud pitcer and a couple of hitters, but from a pitchers standpoint, he will have to work smarter, but not that much different.

Just hoping that in 3 years full years when he is a junior that we are positioned properly based on his skills, good, bad, or other....

Thanks again.
