I have done shameless promotion about my son's band in the past but they now have a space where you can hear some of their music if anyone is interested.

Beryl Court

They have been invited to play the Liquid Lounge in Deep Ellum in Dallas on Dec. 29 at 9:30 pm. if you or your kids like alternative rock and may like to share a night with baseball guys who also play music.

Thanks for tolerating us moms who like to share our kids successes!!

EDIT - the boys got together over the holiday weekend since they were all back in the same town and decided to change their name. Decided there were too many other Silent Pulses out there....another band in Washington, a drum manufacturer, a meditation service....
Beryl Court is where they practice all the time so it seemed fitting.

bluesky,

I enjoyed checking out the band and listening to their songs. Sharing is definitely appropriate here, especially in the ladies' lounge! Which one is your son ... I'm thinking it's Tristan?

It seems like there are quite a few musically-inclined families on this site - some dads who are in bands, as well as sons. Lots of interest in the guitar thread started by Krakatoa in the General forum! My 06 has a few of his band's songs and photos at http://www.purevolume.com/audigy. Tony is the tallest one, with the red-wine guitar. He mostly plays guitar and the occasional harmonica part, but sings lead on a few songs - here's a video of one of my favorites: http://www.signatureit.com/tony/ColorsInYourMind.wmv

I noticed there are quite a few young ladies posting comments and photos on your son's site - ahhh, the perks of being a musician! Smile Good luck to the band with their December show!

Who else has band members (or musicians) in the family?
MN - I enjoyed the songs and video of Audigy. clap

It's great to see kids developing and using the talent they were given!! It's kind of scary to put yourself out there and they should be proud of themselves.

Yes, Tristan is my kid. Wearing the Team One shirt in the photos they have up surprise, surprise. Can never get too far away from baseball.....All the guys played baseball in HS although Tristan is the only one who continued into college.

He plays bass in the band but guitar when he's doing solo stuff or the band does acoustic. He does most of the main vocals but harmony on some songs. All three write so they have a lot of original tunes.

(And regarding the "fan base", if you think there's a lot of girls at the band site, you oughta see his personal site. But then, he has never been shy......)

I'd love to see what other websters kids (or webster for that matter) are up to greenjump

arizonared,

"...how do they find time for a band and baseball?"

Actually my 06 was so busy with music activities in HS that he gradually cut down from 3 sports per year to now only playing basketball. He is busy every day preparing for his college auditions (classical guitar) along with piano, travel choir, pep band, etc. ...oh yeah, and classwork! Smile So my 04 is the only baseball player in our family now.
As MnMom knows, I have a son who is a musician. He's a classical musician, though -- no cool band to share pictures or audio with you all!He wasn't a baseball player, but he ran serious track in high school (grad.'95), and between school, year-round grueling track workouts, school band and orchestra rehearsals, his own music practice (at least 2 hours a day), and Youth Orchestra and another community orchestra he was in --he was one busy kid!!! But because he truly loved it all, he made it all work, even with major sleep deprivation. I'm happy to report that he got great scholarships and has completed his bachelors, masters and Phd. He's now teaching at the college level and performing professionally.

I was watching the Notre Dame game on Saturday and they spotlighted a player (a walk-on who eventually earned a scholarship)who was a violin performance major at ND, as well as a football player. I was impressed! I'd love to know hoo he makes all of that work!

MnMom, when are the auditions? Everyone holding up OK? Smile
Whew....Ihpx2, made me tired just reading what your son went through! And congratulations on his accomplishments.

And good luck in the upcoming auditions, MN.
Tristan played guitar and helped record some of his friend's singing auditions last fall and spring. His friend played violin as well. Very talented, disciplined young man....and I remember how hard he worked to get just the right sound. Music scholarships are hard to come by and hopefully we can hear of Tony's success in the months ahead!

And thanks to all who took the time to listen. Hopefully you liked the songs.

lhpx2,

You asked about audition dates ...

Tony is waiting to hear back from his #1 choice school on whether he will audition Dec. 3 or early Feb., but either way the school will not announce their acceptance decisions until April! noidea This is the school he really wants, as he would study directly under a Dr. of classical guitar who is known as the best in our region, but only a few incoming students are accepted per year. He has been studying with a private teacher who has prepared 4 previous students for this specific audition over the past several years, and all 4 were successful.

He will audition with #2 choice school in March, but he already had a chance to play informally for the department head there (classical piece of course), who said he would definitely be accepted and would earn some level of guitar scholarship.

He has done many piano exams and contests through the years and performs publicly on guitar a lot, and does not tend to get nervous, though these will be his first formal guitar auditions. He was basically prepared for the auditions a month or more ago (songs learned and memorized), but he will continue to practice and perfect them until the audition dates. He is a very hard-working, dedicated, focused kid!

Best of luck to Tony! I had forgotten about the "wait until April" part --they sure do like to draw out the agony, don't they? It sounds to me like Tony is well prepared to do all he needs to. And of course once he is in school, the process keeps going with "juries" and other audition situations they put their students through on a very regular basis. It's kind of like baseball - if they weren't the type that can handle all that preparation and pressure, they wouldn't have wanted to pursue this course to begin with. Keep us posted on Tony's progress!
