According to FED, bat rules don't go into effect until 2012. We are being told what they are so players/coaches can wean them out.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (July 6, 2009) — The clarification of baseball bat specifications was among four rules adjusted by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Baseball Rules Committee at its annual meeting June 7-9 in Indianapolis. The rules changes subsequently were approved by the NFHS Board of Directors.
A change to Rule 1-3-2 regarding bat specifications was made in the hope it will clarify bat compliance. The rule, which will be effective January 1, 2012, specifies that the bat should be a “smooth cylinder implement from the top of the cap to the top of the knob.”

Thank you. Haven't seen the new books or read the rule changes first hand yet. I was reacting to a phone call I received from a local HS coach.
We're schedule to get our 2010 books next Wednesday. I'd better get over to the NFHS website and check it out. (So far I'm been spending most of my time on NCAA matters, including, coincidentally, the email from Jim Paronto last week about the NCAA illegal bat procedure.)

First college (NAIA)game of the year. We threw out 4 composite bats. Not a good indicator for the rest of the season.
