I understand that you can substitute for a defensive starter.
And, the starter can re-enter once in the same batting position.
Upon re-entry, the substitute is then out for the game.

But, can you substitute for a starter and then pinch hit for the substitute with another substitute?
Then, have the starter re-enter to take the place of the 2nd substitute who pinch hit?

Provided you have enough legal players, you can substitute every inning for the preceding substitute and have the starter re-enter.
