Do you want to talk about a huge recruiting class.  New Mexico State is bringing in 35 players.  At first I thought I misread the story.  Coaching Staff are one of the hardest working staff that I have seen in the Southwest.  We did 4 tournaments in Phoenix this year and Coach Mike Brown was at every one of the events.  He was there before the first event started and he was the last coach to be seen on Sundays.  Now I see why the coaching staff was working so hard

Sunwalkingvalley, so glad you posted this.   There is so much for HS players and parents to learn from browsing through this information.

The player list is fairly detailed with stats, accomplishments and accolades as well as the coach's remarks on where he see's them fitting in.  There are roughly 23 returners from 2015 that can be added to this 35 man recruit list.  This program hasn't been very good the last two or three years.  Yet, many of the recruits are all-state, PG ranked, JC all-conference, etc.

Another point of note is the language the coach uses specific to each player.  "He should compete right away" is stated far more often than there are positions in the field.  Also, several of the P's throw 92 plus.  What's it take to make it at the average D1 school?  Here's a great case study.  What's it take to crack the line-up?  Even these guys who have all been told they should compete right away have no idea yet.  Some of these guys who the coach loudly praised and proclaimed how happy he is to have them in the program will get redshirted.  Even more of them and/or returners who made the team last year will get cut.  It's not an easy road.  Even when they tell you they love you.

Cabbagedad, you are correct this web site should be mandatory for every College prospect. I know from our Goodwill Series events BELL and Fishback. They can definitely play.

In 1956, I dedicated this baseball field at New Mexico State in Las Cruces. On our Army "All Star" team was Jack Stanford later a 12 year 20 game winner - pitcher with the SF Giants.

A hitter will enjoy this area "light air" = 40' on a fly ball

20 were listed as pitchers - only four had comments regarding velocity.  All four of those were in the 90's.  I wonder why the coach did not comment on the velocity of the other 16?  I will remain consistent with everything I have ever said on here from direct research I have done.  There are a lot of spots out there in D1 ball for guys who can not hit 90 on the gun.

The really unfortunate thing, especially for the JUCO guys who may not make the cut, is that they won't be able to transfer to another Division I and be immediately eligible if they were "recruited" (as they most likely were) as defined by the NCAA.  That's why I often recommend to marginally-recruited athletes to interact with coaches via e-mail and unofficial visits.  You'll have more options if you need to transfer.

RIck a propos this concern,  I was wondering suppose a coach invites you for a visit, but the school doesn't pay for anything.  The visit wasn't at your initiative,  but it also wasn't subsidized by the school.   Does that count as an official visit for the purpose of determining whether you count as "recruited"  by that school?
