I think we all know some kids like these guys.

Kid never works at hitting in the offseason. He doesn't belong to a facility. He's never worked with a hitting instructor. Doesn't play travel ball. Basically almost doesn't touch a bat from July to January. But, when the High School season starts up, he's batting well and hits for a high average on the season.

Just naturally gifted?

You are describing my childhood.  When baseball season ended we went to football, then basketball, then hockey, then back to baseball.  We never worked on baseball in the off season.

I think being able to track a pitch and barrel it up is a natural gift.  That's not to say the kid has mechanics that deliver quickness or power... sometimes this is natural but even major leaguers need to work on it.
