Last December we played a team from Stockton, I belive they were the Payters in the Okieki T4T tournament. Anyway they were loaded with Sr's and most were studs. I think they were from a private Catholic school in the Stockton area. Just curious how they ended up doing in their league. I suspect since they were so loaded with Sr's that they will have a down year this year.

Interesting thread. At first I thought you guys were talking about summer travel teams, but heck, I can give an opinion on high school clubs too. Eek

I think in the Sac Joaquin section that the Delta League is going to be interesting to say the least. Jesuit might be down a little from last year, but that was an incredible team that seldom comes along...anywhere. They had 8 seniors who started last year that are now playing D1 baseball, including their top 4 pitchers. But, they've still got a good team in 2010. They will have 3 or 4 very capable pitchers, and they should score some runs. It'll be interesting to see how they do as they're going to be the youngest Jesuit team I've ever seen. Their starting middle will most likely be a pair of sophomores. They've both very good (and I'm glad for where they play in the summmer Smile) Elk Grove should be quite good, as they'll have a pretty balanced team, thogh they may lack depth. Pleasant Grove will also be strong in the Delta as will Franklin.

As for Oak Ridge, yes they have 3 D1 committed players (Kyle Porter-Cal, Jordan Mills-St. Marys and Jake Schu-Nevada) and they should dominate their league. They might have more capable pitching than any high school team in the Sacramento area. I expect Porter and Mills to win 12 or more games between them, possibly as many as 15 games. Ponderosa should be good, but OR is in a class by themselves this coming season. I sincerely believe that Oak Ridge might be one of the top 2 or 3 teams in this section in 2010. Granite Bay will be solid again, as will Rocklin. Yuba City is always good, and I expect this year to be another typical Jim Stassi team. Max may be gone, but his younger brother Jake is no slouch himself and they have plenty of other talented players.

As for teams with future college players, Oak Ridge leads the pack so far with their 3, while Elk Grove, Franklin, Granite Bay and Yuba City each have 2 players already committed.
Hey 06catcherdad thanks for the post. Feel free to comment on travel teams also. Do you have some connections in the WCAL? Would love some Bay Area take in this thread. Should we look for Valley Christian, Serra or Mitty this year? Is Santa Cruz going to have the arms this year? I see BV has a D-1 arm to lead them this year. What impact will the SJS realignment have? I know snow is predicted for Sac area this week, but I'm still thinking baseball.
Unfortunately, I don't know much about any other baseball areas than where I live. I have a hard enough time keeping up with our local baseball scene. In the spring, I mostly like to go watch my summer players in their high school games and check out new potential players, and that keeps me plenty busy. On top of that, I umpire high school games so I really don't have time for much else in the spring.

As for that snow, here is a photo of my daughter from this morning. She was home from college for the weekend, and she got to enjoy our unusual weather.

Yes, that's the same 'little' girl that went to Australia, only now she's a successful college student.

Glad to hear about Trayvon. I was hoping to run into him in Arizona in October, as I saw his name on the Peoria roster when we were playing down there. He's done very well for himself.

For those of you who don't know who Trayvon Robinson is, he's a nice young man from inner city LA who didn't have a lot going for him in life, other than his character and a lot of ability to play baseball. A few people (notably Bob) took an interest in him, and he's turned into a successful young man with a bright future in the game.
