Yorktown 2 Chantilly 1

Junior lefty Daniel Whitaker went all the way for Yorktown.

Langley 3 W-L 0

Langley's Robert Hood and Jon O'Connor combine on a no-hitter, Hood going the first 6. The previous night W-L's Austin Evans no-hit McLean through 5 innings and 72 pitches. They relieved him for the 6th and McLean got to the reliever for 5 to win 5-4.

Great to see LB participating in something like this with big-name private school and even better to see them clean up the event.

Score one (actually two) for the public schools/Northern Region on this day!

More specific..claim one for Lake Braddock...they played very well, as expected...no other Northern region team contributed...

From your perspective ...maybe...but there is a VAST difference between Wakefield and Woodson...beat Woodson, then post proudly. You have to know why....come on...keep it nice... I sincerely wish you well...I know and like some TCW folks!

dblemup, thanks for letting me know there is a "VAST" difference between Wakefield and Woodson. Wow, I am sure others are happy you cleared that up for them too. Not looking to post proundly either, just posting a score. Finally, glad you like us folks at TC, we feel blessed and please, continue to share your knowledge with us.

There, I kept it nice.

Naah, I'll let you do it...I probably won't see TCW play much this season. Good luck ...

I thought novabball's original comment about Woodson being a tougher test than Wakefield was legit--he was enthusiastic about what TCW had shown so far but acknowledged it's too early to get excited. Nothing wrong with that.

And I thought dblemup's "ya think?" comment was mostly playful. Nothing wrong with that, either.

Unfortunately, each took the other's comments as personal and replied in a manner that quickly became unmistakably personal.

Larger context is that both novabball and dblemup are solid contributors here who make the Virginia forum better.

Let's move on.

I was just kidding...agreed on the "let's move on" part.

This will be another great early season matchup much like LB vs. WS was on Friday.

I give the edge to LB on Tuesday, mainly because South County has only played ONE SCRIMMAGE thusfar due to weather cancelations. They have not seen game action since an early March scrimmage vs. Mt. Vernon. LB has already hit the ground running, having already played some of the best teams in the area.

As far as Beal vs. Towns, flip a coin. I think Beal has better 'stuff' and has a bit higher upside as a pitcher. Towns is an infielder first, pitcher second. But that's not to say that he isn't capable of shutting down a good offense. He has experience in big games and is a very smart player.

Tuesday's winner may very well end up playing for a region title, but, it is still very early and South County will be taking the field for the first time in a game that counts. No matter the outcome, both of these teams WILL be chasing titles at season's end.
...and judging by that score I think it is fair to say that WestPo is not quite ready for prime time. I think we will learn a lot about the Patriot after tomorrow night's finals are in. Woodson at West Springfield in a matchup of last season's state representatives from the Northern region, and South County at Lake Braddock, in a matchup of what could very well be this year's...
W T Woodson over West Springfield 7-6.

John and Joe McGillicuddy combined on the mound for Woodson. David Rozner went 3 for 4 with a 3 run Homer. John McGillicuddy and Joe Brendler each had 2 hits. Pitchers for West Springfield were Williamson and Snook. Garrett Wooddell with a 2 run homer in the 1st. Trump was 3 for 4 and Snook and Hauptle had 2 hits each. Good defense from both teams - very exciting game to watch!
What was the deal with the WTW assistant coach's behavior after the game last night? First, he went directly after the home plate umpire and loudly berated him, then during the coaches' handshaking after the game he almost got into a fight with the WS coaches with a lot more yelling going on.

And this was after they won the game -- I would hate to see how he acts after a tough loss!!

I realize that he was arguing about what he thought was the wrong call on a check swing/third strike that would have ended the game a moment sooner, but I was surprised to see a coach behaving in such a manner. Seems quite irresponsible to me.
Stone Bridge beat Madison last night 10-9 in 8 innings. Not a pretty game - several errors on both sides of the ball, but quite exciting...I'm not sure anyone left the stands early despite the temps being around 40 degrees...

Editing to add regarding the 10 run rule...Both of Stone Bridge's first two games were won via the 10 run rule...the first 14-0 over Jefferson in 5 complete and the second a "walk off" 11-1 over South Lakes in the bottom of the 6th...

Not so fast, guys. South County plays tonight at West Potomac (game was rained out on Friday). I doubt that one will be a gimme. Lake Braddock at home on Tuesday, then at Woodson on Friday. Should be an interesting week.

Beat West Potomac 15-4, Lake Braddock 12-5 and Woodson 11-4. Some pretty impressive run totals. I know they faced Towns(Braddock) and Hough(Woodson). Not sure who pitched for West Potomac, but read that South County had 17 hits that night.

Yep. Very impressive week for SC. Extremely well coached team with some stud Seniors. Not sure who pitched last night vs. Woodson, but Frazier was as good as it gets against WP. Heard he pitched again vs. LB. The only question with SC is who their third pitcher is...if either of their top 2 go down, that could be a problem.
Frazier pitched at least the first six innings. Was very effective keeping the Woodson bats quiet most of the night. Rozner did have a couple nice hits. The coach calling the pitches was working backwards and keeping the hitters off balance. SC looks very good. Woodson has some very good arms but must pick-up their fielding (5 or more errors) and get some more balanced hitting...IMO

So apparently Frazier has a rubber arm. Next week is another three game week.

COLD? It's 75 degrees out there..It's been 30-40 with snow rain so far...come on Batty!

It was cold Friday night when they played.
Westfield is a pretty solid team and I'm sure there will be folks talking as the year goes on Swampboy...Our guys generally play them (scrimmage or game) every year...in this year's scrimmage, we were up early but they came back and won late...

I'm guessing most games will be rained out tonight...I've heard several being rescheduled for tomorrow...

NICE game by your son the other night!!! You had lots of folks around, sorry I didn't get over to say good bye...we also had a minor "crisis" caused by my other son that we had to deal with...

See ya at our place in May!!!
South County 7
W. Springfield 4

Simko and Beal duel to a 1-1 game into the 6th. In the SoCo 6th, Bondurant and Perez go back to back, Egbert a 3-run shot later in the inning to put it out of reach. Rector also went yard for SoCo earlier.

Simko pitched very well for WS and deserved a better fate. This observer thinks he was left in about 4 batters too long. Beal wins without his best stuff (4 hits 6Ks 5BB 2HBP on about 100 pitches). Bondurant and Rector each had 3 hits.
Simko is uncertain at this time. He turned down a D1 that was not his fit. He has several schools interested but is looking for the right fit.

From what I've seen of Simko, he would be an asset to many college teams. A confident, smart, and effective pitcher on the mound. Plus, he has a wicked pickoff move.

Nice to hear good things about a quality young man. Best of luck to Mikey...

Coupled with Yorktown's 15-4 win over Stuart, Hayfield, W-L, and Yorktown are tied for 1st after one lap around the national.

Great game, very well played by both teams. I got there after W-L got 4 runs and then they were shut down cold by Hayfield. Hayfield put many batters on base in subsequent innings but superior defense and things just never quite coming together kept W-L on top. I don't recall seeing a single error but I saw many, many great plays by both teams.
