Northwest Guilford should compete well in the Metro 4A conference this season. After a season opening loss at Charlotte Christian, the Vikings bounced back well this week with wins over Asheboro and Western Guilford. Defensively, this is a sound team. You'd be hard-pressed to find another SS in the state as good as Matt Gaski or a catcher as capable as Houston Summers. The pitching staff will be anchored by Bryce Durham. He'll get lots of help from Michael Wright, Nick Rogers, Tony Smith and Summers. There are a number of other pitchers who could step up and see plenty of action. Perhaps the strongest aspect of this team is the hitting. There's plenty of pop in the bats all through the line-up. When it's all working in unison, Northwest Guilford can be a force to be reckoned with.
Northwest Guilford picked up 2 more wins last week, improving to 4-1 on the season. Friday's game was a 5-3 victory at Southwest Guilford (WP-Durham) and Saturday the Vikings won at home against Southeast Guilford (WP-Rogers).

A real tough match-up coming up on Wednesday as Northwest travels to undefeated Northeast Guilford. The Rams have already recorded 2 perfect game pitching performances and have scored 78 runs in 6 games while allowing only 6 runs. Defensively, they've only had 1 error all season. There are no weaknesses, so Northwest had better come ready to battle!
