OK, son just called on this regarding a teammate.. . . A baseballplayers goes to a juco out of high school and plays one season. Season #2 - Gets injured and sits a season. Season #3 - Transfer to another juco and is finally healthy. Here is the question; Is there a new "rule" that states a player most complete a certain number of classes in his intended major before being eligible for transfer or to play at a D1 school? I never heard of anything like this, but that doesn't mean dokie. I'm thinking if he's taken 3 years of juco classes he'd better have enough classes in some major, even if a liberal arts degree.

You're probably referring to the 40-60-80 rule.
A player after year two at a D1 must have completed 40% progress (48 hours in a 120 hour degree plan) to his degree and must declare a major prior to year 3. The same is true for the JUCO transfer student..the transferable hours must dovetail into the degree plan at the school he transfers to.
One question here is did he attend year 2 as a full time student and did he redshirt? If so he's trying to transfer as an academic junior which will be very tough I imagine.
Canes - I've been watching this thread to see what the answer is because I don't know myself. My son attended JUCO for one year. 20Dad asks if he was a qualifier or non-qualifier out of HS because if non-qualifier, he will need the hours mentioned before, but will also need to have his associate's degree.

I'm just not sure how the RS year plays into things. What I do know is that it would be very difficult to obtain classes a third year at a JUCO that will transfer towards a degree anywhere! JUCOs don't offer upper level courses.

Perhaps he expects/hopes to be drafted and academics aren't his priority?

He may end up facing some academic challenges that he wasn't prepared for.
