Without doing an extensive rule book search, I would think this is scored as a put out to the catcher, with an AB charged to the hitter. He was out, just like he should've been without input from the home team.
Basically, score it just like the catcher had caught the ball. In my book, that's a f-2.
This is offensive interference. - ball is dead ... and as you stated: - counts as an AB for the batter - putout goes to the catcher, since he was the one interfered with.
